Hanoi plans 13,000 sq.m theater next to West Lake
The Hanoi People’s Committee has approved a new urban planning scheme with the highlight being a theater next to the West Lake.
The area for planning spans over 44 ha in two Tay Ho District wards: Quang An and Tu Lien. The land’s main function is to be a cultural and art park, along with theaters, religious institutions and entertainment venues.

The urban planning scheme would establish spaces connecting the center of the West Lake western urban area-West Lake-West Lake peninsula-Red River to the Co Loa Citadel.
The scheme also aims to connect underground spaces, such as parking lots, with the general infrastructure of the city; improving the infrastructure and traffic systems; adding parking lots and protecting the environment of the West Lake and surrounding areas.
The highlight of the project is a theater to be constructed next to the West Lake. The theater would span around 13,000 square meters and be built over the Dam Tri Lake. It would be designed by Italian architect Renzo Piano.
In a presentation on the theater’s design, counselors said Piano suggested for the theater’s architecture to remind people of the waves of the West Lake.
