Bac Giang attracts investment to develop logistics services

Updated: 14:19, 06/04/2024

BAC GIANG - The logistics industry plays an important role in business activities of most types of goods and services. Tapping local advantages, Bac Giang has paid attention to improving infrastructure, raising business capacity and service quality, and developing logistics services.

Currently, Bac Giang has six industrial parks (IPs) and 36 basic industrial clusters that have been filled. In the Master Plan of Bac Giang province for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050, the province prioritises calling for investment to develop 29 industrial parks with an area of 7,000 hectares and 63 industrial clusters covering 2,997 hectares.

The Kep international railway station in Lang Giang district, combined with a number of dry ports in the area, is expected to become a modern logistics service area.

The province is urgently completing procedures to speed up the progress of infrastructure construction in industrial zones and clusters, improving the business and investment environment, thus creating favourable conditions for logistics development.

Bac Giang is investing heavily in transportation projects connecting with neighboring localities, especially the capital city of Hanoi, Quang Ninh, Hai Phong, Lang Son, and Thai Nguyen.

In addition to planning a dry port and logistics area complex in Huong Son commune, Lang Giang district, Bac Giang province also plans eight general service and logistics area projects in Viet Yen township, Bac Giang city and Hiep Hoa, Luc Nam, and Yen Dung districts.

According to a representative of the provincial Department of Industry and Trade, the growth of businesses in the province, combined with the presence of foreign direct investment (FDI) enterprises and a system of FTAs, has helped Bac Giang’s international trade strongly develop, with export and import turnover continuously increasing and markets expanding.

The province’s total import and export turnover in 2023 reached 52.4 billion USD, up 20.9% compared to 2022 and ranking 6th in the country. Bac Giang is also a locality with potential for agricultural economic development.

Currently, the province has the largest concentrated fruit growing area in the North, with many products known to domestic and foreign markets. Some products have been exported to Japan, the US, the EU, Australia, and China.

According to Nguyen Cuong, Standing Vice Chairman of the provincial Business Association, Bac Giang is located on the largest economic corridor in the northern region: Hanoi - Bac Giang - Lang Son - Cao Bang and is part of the Hanoi Capital Region Master Plan (50 km from the capital and Noi Bai International Airport).

It is a "dual" gateway as it is 110 km from the Vietnam - China border (Huu Nghi International Border Gate in Lang Son province), and about 140 km from Hai Phong and Quang Ninh international seaports. Bustling import-export and trading activities are favourable conditions to help the province develop logistics services.

Recently, a number of businesses in the province and neighbouring localities have delivered services, but these only cover one stage of logistics.

In the context of Vietnam's increasingly growing export and import activities, expanding domestic trade, and increasing demand for logistics services, this is a big challenge for logistics development.

Recognising the importance of the logistics industry, Bac Giang province has approved the Bac Giang city international logistics center infrastructure and warehouse project on a scale of more than 66 hectares.

The area for implementing the Bac Giang city international logistics center infrastructure and warehouse project.

From November 2023 to December 2025, the province will complete procedures regarding land and construction as well as build works under the approved detailed planning. From January 2026 to January 2027, it will build the remaining items of the project and complete and put the whole project into operation in February 2027.

To operate the Kep international railway station in Lang Giang district, the Customs Sub-department in charge of the provincial industrial parks has established a customs team here.

In addition to a dry port and logistics area complex in Huong Son commune (Lang Giang), Bac Giang also plans eight general service and logistics area projects in Viet Yen township, Hiep Hoa, Luc Nam and Yen Dung districts, and Bac Giang city.
