Bac Giang craft villages given more strength

BAC GIANG - Preserving and developing craft villages plays an important role in promoting rural economic and labour restructuring, creating jobs and increasing income for people. Therefore, Bac Giang province has actively taken many solutions to preserve and sustainably develop craft villages.

In Bac Giang, the work of preserving and developing craft villages has received attention from authorities at all levels and sectors. Many craft villages have protected collective marks and geographical indications of products such as rice noodles of Thu Duong craft village in Nam Duong commune, Luc Ngan district; Van village wine and Tho Ha rice paper in Van Ha commune, Viet Yen district; Ke rice paper in Bac Giang city; Chau Son rice noodles in Ngoc Chau commune, Tan Yen district.

Bai Oi carpentry village creates jobs for hundreds of workers.

The Bai Oi carpentry village in Dinh Tri commune, Bac Giang city is home to more than 150 carpenter households. Many establishments have invested a huge sum in purchasing modern machinery. The craft village’s products have obtained trademark protection, with many high-end fine art products exported.

In the Chau Son rice noodle craft village, from just a few households making the craft spontaneously, now three cooperatives have been established with an output of 10-12 tons of noodles per day.

The provincial Museum organizes demonstration of the stages and techniques of Do paper making by the Cao Lan ethnic group in Luc Son commune, Luc Nam district.

The commune has zoned off a rice noodle production and trading area for the craft village, and upgraded roads to facilitate goods transport. The local electricity sector has upgraded and built a number of transformer stations to meet the production and daily needs of the people.

Bac Giang province currently has 27 craft villages recognized by the provincial People's Committee. One of the craft groups operating effectively is the processing and preservation of agricultural, forestry and aquatic products. This group annually attracts more than 5,400 workers, earning more than 600 billion VND (24.7 million USD) per year in revenue, and contributing more than 40 billion VND (1.65 million) per year to the state budget. Many craft villages have invested in upgrading production lines, machinery and equipment.

In order to preserve and sustainably develop craft villages, in recent times, the province has provided support in many different ways.

Over the past time, craft village infrastructure has gradually been upgraded, basically meeting the conditions for production and business, including roads and electricity, water and wastewater treatment systems. The whole province has 23 craft village products obtaining OCOP (One Commune One Product) certification, including eight 4-star and 15 3-star products, and some of which have products exported.
