E-commerce promotes sale of agricultural products

Updated: 07:58, 30/03/2024

BAC GIANG - Tapping the advantages of e-commerce, many businesses, cooperatives, and households in Bac Giang province have expanded channels to promote and distribute their farm produce. Thanks to that, many typical local agricultural products are sold favourably, with increasing value.

Effective sales channels

Recently, many typical agricultural products of the province have been promoted by production and business entities on social networks and e-commerce platforms. Keeping up with this new trend has opened up great prospects for agricultural products to reach far.

Many agricultural products of Bac Giang province are sold online.

Not only paying attention to improving product quality to meet OCOP (One Commune One Product) standards, many cooperatives in Luc Ngan district have built brands and labels for local agricultural products and widely promoted them on e-commerce platforms.

According to Phan Van Net, Director of the Phi Dien Agricultural Production, Trade and Services Cooperative in Phi Dien commune, Luc Ngan district, in the last crop, thanks to e-commerce platforms, the cooperative's jujube products were sold conveniently, with higher selling prices than traditional sales channels.

At an event promoting the potential and connection opportunities between Hanoi and provinces in the northern key economic region held at the end of 2023, the cooperative promoted its products on Tiktok platform, attracting many customers. In December 2023, the cooperative officially began online selling of specialties of Luc Ngan district such as dried lychee, fresh jujube, apple jam, orange, pomelo and lychee honey. As a result, hundreds of orders were delivered to customers. To operate the new sales channel, the cooperative hired a media agency and then posted products on social networking platforms such as Tiktok, Facebook, Zalo and some e-commerce platforms.

Supporting agricultural products to reach further

According to the Department of Industry and Trade, in 2023, this agency coordinated with the Vietnam e-Commerce and Digital Economy Agency under the Ministry of Industry and Trade to support businesses, cooperatives, and production households to promote and sell the signature and potential agricultural products of the province on e-commerce platforms.

At the same time, it organised two training conferences on e-commerce, including one for businesses and cooperatives to raise their awareness of e-commerce. Stakeholders were guided to promote, introduce, and livestream products on multi-channel digital platforms such as Tiktok and Zalo, and create booths on Posmart.vn.

In June 2023, more than 40 key opinion leaders (KOLs) on the Tiktok platform gathered in Hong Giang commune, Luc Ngan district to conduct livestream sessions to promote and sell some typical OCOP products of the province such as lychee, rice noodles, soy sauce and cordyceps. Within 4 hours, the content creators made 26 livestream sessions, attracting nearly 1.7 million views and closing 5,182 orders with total revenue of 1.2 billion VND (48,460 USD).

In addition, the provincial Cooperative Alliance also supported five cooperatives to put their products on the domestic and international e-commerce platforms.

According to a leader of the provincial Department of Industry and Trade, in the coming time, Bac Giang province will continue to encourage the application of information technology in promoting and selling agricultural products. At the same time, it will coordinate with relevant agencies to actively organise training on how to promote agricultural products online; invest in building brands and then labels and barcodes to trace the origin of products, thereby facilitating the online sale of farm produce.

The department will continue to pay attention to supporting businesses, cooperatives, and production and business households to create booths and bringing products to domestic and foreign e-commerce platforms to boost the promotion and sale of local agricultural products. It will also aid online sale via livestreaming on Tiktok and Facebook.

The unit will continue to improve and develop infrastructure and solutions to support electronic transactions integrated with payments in commerce and public service while focusing on developing payment utilities on mobile platforms and e-wallets, and QR code scanning.
