High public esteem helps widen rural roads in Viet Yen township

Updated: 17:03, 11/04/2024

BAC GIANG - Thanks to the resolutions on supporting to expand, revamp and update the roads in the village, residential groups and alleys that are warmly responded by the people, the rural road expansion movement in residential areas in Viet Yen township (Bac Giang province) has been done to dramatically change the appearance of villages and neighbouring areas.

At this time, the locals in Ha village of Thuong Lan commune are excited at donating the land to expand roads. They not only actively dismantled walls, structures and trees on the land to expand village roads but also voluntarily contributed labor and money (an average of 1 million VND per person) to help land donors rebuild fences, auxiliary buildings and livestock barns.

People in Ha village, Thuong Lan commune dismantle the structure to donate land to build an alley.

For example, Nguyen Van Thang's household donated more than 70 square meters of land and about 240 square meters of surrounding walls to expand nearly 120 m of 3 village roads around his house while Nguyen Van Luong demolished 20 square meters of the house to expand the alley.

According to Duong Van Nam, Chairman of Thuong Lan Commune People's Committee, this year 7 out of 8 villages in the commune registered to build roads. They wanted to upgrade, repair and expand more than 5 km of village roads and alleys.

The villagers donated more than 1,500 square meters, about 2,000 square meters of fence and many auxiliary works; more than 400 million VND and about 1,000 working days.

The road in Ram residential group of Tu Lan ward (Viet Yen township) is renovated and upgraded to become more spacious, clean and beautiful.

Representative of the Urban Management Department in Viet Yen township said this year 15 out of 17 communes and wards in the township registered to upgrade and expand the roads in the villages, residential areas and alleys with a total length of more than 134 kilometres.

Viet Yen township has strongly developed the movement to build rural roads since the District People's Council issued the Resolution No. 02/NQ-HDND dated January 15, 2022 on approval and implementation of the project "Support to expand, renovate and upgrade roads in the village, residential areas and alleys in Viet Yen district in 2022" (the Project).

In 2018, the district was recognized as the new rural district. At that time, the local rural transportation system was basically solidified. However, the main road surface was only 2 to 3.5 m wide with very few routes up to 5 m wide.

According to this Project, every kilometer of new road is supported with 100% of cement. Support funding is equivalent to 30-35% of the total road construction budget while the remainding cost is paid by the communes and towns.

In particular, to ensure sufficient resources and completion progress, on July 20, 2022, the District People's Council continued to issue Resolution No. 16/NQ-HDND so as to increase the assistance to build road for localities in line with the Project.

Thanks to budget support, local people have actively participated in donating land, effort and money to expand the road.

After 1 year of implementation, the entire township has 156 km of rural roads upgraded and expanded with a total support cost of more than 112.23 billion VND. Many village roads that were previously less than 3 m wide have now expanded to 5-6 m. Many alleys are widened from 2.5 m to 3.5 - 4 m.

Do Ba Thanh (far left) in Ke village of Minh Duc commune introduces the road newly opened on his family donating land.

Localities have upgraded and expanded many roads such as: Minh Duc with more than 26.4 km; Viet Tien with more than 23.3 km; Thuong Lan with over 14.1 km... The local donated a total of more than 11,600 square meters of land of all kinds, thousands of square meters of boundary walls, dozens of structures and assets on the land which were dismantled as well as thousands of labor days to open the roads.

Le Hoang Bach, Vice Chairman of Viet Yen Township People's Committee, acknowledged that the government's support funding is considered "leverage". Because many people want to expand the road and are willing to donate land to build the road, but not every one has enough condition or the awareness to contribute.

Therefore, the support from the budget helped enhance the consensus rate among people, complete the rural transport system of Viet Yen, create conditions to promote local socio-economic development.
