Xuong Giang festival recognized as national intangible cultural heritage

BAC GIANG - On February 14 evening (the 5th day of the first lunar month), the municipal Party Committee, People’s Council, People’s Committee and Fatherland Front Committee of Bac Giang city solemnly organised the festival marking the 597th anniversary of the Xuong Giang Victory and announcing the decision of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism recognising the Xuong Giang Festival as a national intangible cultural heritage.

The event was attended by Duong Van Thai, member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Head of the Provincial Delegation of National Assembly deputies.

The Xuong Giang Victory marked a glorious highlight in the Vietnam’s history fighting against invaders, which was a great pride of the Party Committee, government and people of all ethnic groups of Bac Giang province and Bac Giang city.

The Xuong Giang Victory relic site was recognized as a special national relic by Prime Minister in 2019.

Xuong Giang festival has been held annually since 1998 in the area where Xuong Giang battle took place to show the respect and tribute to the heroes, talented and virtuous people and locals who devoted their lives in the historic land. 

With such historical significance, on 10 November 2023, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism decided to include Xuong Giang Festival in the list of national intangible cultural heritages. This is the first festival in Bac Giang city honoured.

At 6 am, the procession delegations leave Thanh communal house to the festival center.

After the drum performance, the participants and people enjoyed a special art programme themed “Xuong Giang Victory- everlasting glory” including 3 parts part 1 "Xuong Giang - An epic that resonates forever"; part 2 "Country song" and part 3 "Bac Giang - belief, aspiration.

Tourists flock to Xuong Giang festival.

Previously, a number of activities like ritual performances, folk games and rural market cultural space took place at the relic site.

Xuong Giang Great Victory - Peaceful Country
Xuong Giang ancient citadel or Xuong Giang Victory special national relic site  is located in the Quan Thanh T-junction, Xuong Giang ward of Bac Giang city (Bac  Giang province). It was recognized by the Prime Minister as the Special National Relic Site in the Decision No 1954/QD-TTg on December 31, 2019. The site was attached to Lam Son Uprising led by Le Loi to fight against the control of Minh invader.
