Updated: 16:23, 09/05/2024

BAC GIANG – A teleconference aimed at promoting Bac Giang province’s lychee exports to Chinese localities in 2024 took place on May 8.

The event was jointly held by the Department of Industry and Trade of Bac Giang province and the Asia-Africa Market Department, the Vietnam Trade Promotion Agency and the Agency of Foreign Trade under the Ministry of Industry and Trade; the Departments of Commerce and relevant agencies of China’s Yunnan province and the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

Minister Counselor at the Chinese Embassy in Vietnam Wu Guoquan and Vice Chairman of the provincial People's Committee Phan The Tuan attend the teleconference from Bac Giang province.

The conference took place at the headquarters of the People's Committee of Bac Giang province and was connected to four venues in China.

Attending the event from Bac Giang were Wu Guoquan, Minister Counselor at the Chinese Embassy in Vietnam; Phan The Tuan, Vice Chairman of the provincial People's Committee; and representatives of a number of local departments, agencies, districts, enterprises, and cooperatives.

This year, lychee growers in Bac Giang province continued to apply science, technology and farming experience, so the lychee quality is better. The province’s total lychee output is estimated at 100,000 tonnes, including 50,000 tonnes of early-ripening lychees and 50,000 tonnes of main-season lychees. The early-ripening lychee harvest time is from May 20 and that for main-season lychees is from June 10 to July 30.

China is identified as a traditional market, with many years of cooperation.

According to Tran Quang Tan, Director of the provncial Department of Industry and Trade, currently many Chinese businesses and traders - traditional customers - are preparing to monitor the purchasing and sale of lychees in Tan Yen and Luc Ngan districts.

Authorities at all levels, sectors and localities in the province have proactively prepared conditions and committed to creating favourable conditions for lychee growers.

On this occasion, Bac Giang province suggested Chinese authorities support the organisation of many exchange activities to enhance cooperation in the fields of economics and trade; create conditions and share information about new regulations and policies related to export and import in general and agricultural products in particular so that Bac Giang can promptly guide people and businesses to prepare the best quality goods, meeting the market demand.

Minister Counselor Wu said that Bac Giang lychee is fresh, delicious, sweet and is one of Vietnam's main tropical fruits exported to China, favoured by Chinese consumers. Bac Giang is preparing to welcome a new lychee crop with better quality and an estimated output of 100,000 tonnes. The Chinese Embassy in Vietnam is willing to continue to cooperate closely with Bac Giang province, Vietnamese departments, sectors and agencies so that Vietnamese lychees are sold to the Chinese market in a timely manner.

In 2023, Bac Giang exported more than 100,000 tonnes of lychees to the Chinese market.

The opinions at the conference demonstrate the companionship of the delegates and Bac Giang province for the success of the 2024 lychee crop, he said, expressing his hope that difficulties and obstacles will be removed promptly, helping Bac Giang lychee to be exported smoothly.
