Updated: 16:21, 30/01/2024
BAC GIANG – According to Hoang Luong communal People’s Committee, on Lunar New Year occasion,  each day local farmers in Hoang Luong commune of Hiep Hoa district (Bac Giang province) supplies about 150 tonnes of water dropwort to the market, an increase of 30 tonnes per day compared to the previous time.

At this time, the vegetable is sold at 10,000 – 12,000 VND (about 0.5 USD) per kg, doubling the price two months ago.

The consuming demand is high. But due to the cold weather leading to hardness in harvesting the vegetables, local farmers sometimes can not meet all the orders.

The family of Le Thi Nga in Thanh Lam village, Hoang Luong commune hires more workers to harvest the water dropwort.

In the coming days, the selling price is forecasted to further increase, bringing significant income to farmers.

Hoang Luong commune develops a large-scale concentrated area of water dropwort. This year, the entire commune has nearly 185 hectares mostly in the villages of Thanh Lam, Thanh Luong, Dai Thang, Dong Hoang and Ninh Giang.

Of which, 141 hectares meet VietGAP standards (an increase of 17 hectares compared to 2022), 30 hectares meet OCOP standards while the rest are high-tech and safe vegetables.

This vegetable is harvested from September of the previous year to April of the following year with a cycle of 50-55 days per crop. This year, the local farmer can earn hundreds of millions of VND per hectare of water dropwort with average productivity of 40 tonnes per hectares per crop.
