Xuong Giang bridge expansion project commenced

BAC GIANG- The Railway Project Management Board (under the Ministry of Transportation) on February 24 organised a ceremony to start the construction to expand Xuong Giang bridge and the roads to the bridge crossing the Thuong river on Hanoi-Bac Giang expressway in Bac Giang city.

The total investment of the project is over 170 billion VND (6.64 million USD) from state budget.

The construction item is under the project to upgrade and expand a number of bridges and tunnels along the national highway No 1 including Xuong Giang bridge in Bac Giang province, Gianh and Quan Hau bridges in Quang Binh province and Deo Ngang tunnel in Ha Tinh province.

The construction project is designed to have one head at Km117+440 in Tran Phu ward and one end at Km118+400 in Dong Son ward (Bac Giang city). Its total length is about 0.96km, of which the bridge is 301m and the remaining is leading roads.

Particularly, one new single span of the bridge will be built suitable to the road scale with 16.5m width, reinforced concrete and prestressed concrete design and 3-lane road surface. The roads to the bridge will be 33m in width with 4 vehicle lanes.

The Railway Project Management Board is the project investor while the joint venture of Truong Son Construction Investment Joint Stock Company and Giang Son Construction Joint Stock Company is the constructor.

The project is expected to complete at the end of this year, contributing to relieving traffic congestion on Xuong Giang bridge, boosting trade connection and promoting socio-economic development in Bac Giang province.
