Bac Giang boosts staple products

Updated: 06:24, 25/02/2025

BAC GIANG - Bac Giang has many key products which increasingly affirm their value and brand. However, the product development is not really done well with some difficulties, especially investment in processing. In order to improve productivity and product quality, in line with national and international standards, the province has implemented various solutions.

Currently, the province has 7 key products including lychee, rice, vegetables, pork, chicken, rice noodles and tea. These are local products with huge supply to the market as well as high competitiveness to create motivation for the development of other products and services.

Thai Eco Company Limited (Bac Giang city) processes jicama to increase the value of agricultural products.

The production of key crops and animals in recent times has helped people increase their income, promote rural economic development and build new rural areas.

However, according to the representative of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD), the production efficiency of key products is uneven and still affected by weather and diseases.

Overall, the output of local staples produced each year is relatively large, but because there are not many concentrated and specialized areas, production costs are high. The mechanization and technical progress are limited so it is difficult to attract investment from businesses.

To overcome the above difficulties and promote the development of key products, Bac Giang province has recently implemented many support mechanisms and policies.

On January 18, 2023, the Provincial People's Committee issued Decision No. 100/QD-UBND approving the results of reviewing, updating and editing the digital map of concentrated production areas and specialized cultivation of key local agricultural products.

Following the review results, districts, townships and city have focused on maintaining and expanding specialized production areas in accordance with provincial planning, paid more attention to propaganda and guidance for people to expand the production area of quality plants and animals so as to gradually create a linkage chain and overcome the situation of small-scale production.

In addition to the 86 existing production chains, in 2025, the province will continue to support the construction of chains for raising and consuming biosafety commercial pigs in Viet Yen township; breeding chickens in Hiep Hoa; breeding biosafety commercial hill chickens and processing soybeans and vegetables in Luc Nam district.

Every year, many localities, sectors and organizations allocate funds to implement the One Commune One Product Programme which is considered a lever to help key products promote their potential.

The Farmers Support Fund at all levels in the province has a capital of more than 70 billion VND; the Cooperative Development Support Fund has more than 20 billion VND. Thanks to the loans from the funds, hundreds of farmers have received preferential loans to develop production.

Many enterprises and cooperatives have seized opportunities, accessed support policies and proactively invested in production and processing.

The Nhu Hoa High-Tech Agriculture and General Service Production Cooperative (Viet Yen township) was supported by the Provincial Cooperative Alliance with more than 700 million VND in 2024 to equip machinery for preliminary processing and processing of agricultural products.

This year, the Cooperative continues to invest in expanding the factory, purchasing frying machines and oil separators to process dried potatoes and sweet potatoes to meet market demand.

According to Le Ba Thanh, Deputy Director of the DARD, investing in key products is the right policy to develop agricultural production towards increasing added value, efficiency and sustainability.

In the coming time, the agricultural sector, together with localities and functional sectors, will continue to strengthen the dissemination and popularization of agricultural support policies to enterprises, cooperatives, households and individuals.

Besides, all competent agencies will guide and support organizations and individuals to produce in association with environmental protection; improve product designs and packaging; enhance market forecasting capacity as well as support trade promotion.

To meet the requirements of concentrated agricultural production, the province targets to create a favorable and equal environment for economic sectors to invest in agricultural and rural development, prioritizing investment in the production of key commodities, applying high technology, processing and preserving agricultural and forestry products and mobilizing resources to develop agricultural and rural infrastructure.
