BAC GIANG – Bac Giang province is actively rolling out a comprehensive plan to develop high-performance sports through 2030, according to Mai Son, Vice Chairman of the provincial People's Committee.
The province is prioritising investment in its strong sports such as badminton and chess, while also exploring the development of new disciplines with potential for competition at the Olympic Games, the Asian Games (ASIAD), the Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games), the National Sports Games, and various national, regional, and international youth competitions.

Bac Giang aims to rank between 15th and 17th out of 65 provinces, cities, and sectors in the total medal count at the 10th National Sports Games in 2026, and to place within the top 15 at the 11th edition in 2030.
The province also strives to secure first place among mountainous provinces by 2030. In addition, Bac Giang targets winning 5-7 medals at the 33rd SEA Games in Thailand and 6-8 medals at the 34th edition in Malaysia.
From now until 2026, Bac Giang will establish and solidify its athlete training system for high-performance sports, organised into four levels: talented students, elite teams, youth teams, and provincial teams. The province plans to nurture a pool of 500-550 athletes, alongside more than 100 students with exceptional sports talents.
The province will continue to focus investment on its core sports, particularly traditional and high-priority disciplines, as well as those featured in major competitions such as the National Sports Games, SEA Games, ASIAD, and the Olympic Games, including athletics, chess, badminton, shuttlecock kicking, and wrestling.
Each year, Bac Giang aims to secure 200-230 medals across all categories, including 6-8 international medals, and contribute 15-20 athletes to the national and youth national teams.
From 2027 to 2030, it will maintain and further develop its key sports from the previous years, with the Sports Training and Competition Center providing training for 550-600 athletes and nearly 200 students with sports talents.
The province aims to win 220-250 medals annually during this period, including 8-10 international medals, and contribute 20-25 athletes to the national and youth national teams. It also aims for at least 70 athletes to achieve national-level status.
Bac Giang will also strengthen its training programmes, organise overseas training camps or collaborate with national sports training centers and regions with strengths in particular sports to support its elite teams and athletes.
In 2024, the provincial Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism directed various sports disciplines and teams to design training programmes and participate in 83 national competitions and 11 international events, securing a total of 682 medals of all kind.
Notably, two Bac Giang athletes competed as part of the Vietnamese shuttlecock team at the World Shuttlecock Championships in China, winning three gold and two silver medals, among the six golds, two silvers, and one bronze earned by the Vietnamese team (which ranked first overall).
