Bac Giang promotes green transition

Updated: 15:16, 18/03/2025

BAC GIANG - At the 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP 26) held in late 2021 in the UK, Vietnam committed to implementing measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. To achieve this goal, in recent years, Bac Giang has been promoting digital transformation and green transition, gradually greening its economy.

The province has achieved many remarkable accomplishments in the socio-economic fields. It has consistently posted high economic growth, leading the nation.

LGG Bac Giang Garment Corporation (Lang Giang) is a pioneer in implementing green transition.

However, to create new breakthroughs, Bac Giang recognises the need to fully utilise its available advantages while also anticipating future development trends by promoting green transition.

The provincial People’s Committee has issued the Action Plan on Green Growth for the 2021-2030 period.

According to the Department of Finance, the key objectives in the plan have been basically met on schedule. For example, the energy consumption rate for producing one unit of GRDP during the 2021-2030 period aims to decrease by 1.5-2% per year, but in 2024, the rate already dropped by 3.3% per year.

The percentage of urban solid waste collected and processed according to the required standards is set to reach 95% by 2030, while the rate already surpassed 97.5% last year.

Following the Prime Minister’s Decision No. 876/QD-TTg, dated July 22, 2022, approving the Action Programme on Green Energy Transition and Emission Reduction, Bac Giang encourages businesses and transport service establishments to invest in new electric buses and taxis.

The province is also implementing a coordinated approach to integrate renewable energy into traffic management systems to ensure efficient transportation.

Currently, there are approximately 100 electric taxis operated by the Huong Giang Transport Cooperative in the province, and the figure is expected to increase to 270.

Green transition is also being embraced by many enterprises in an effort to meet the requirements of their partners and markets.

A representative of LGG Bac Giang Garment Corporation (Lang Giang district) shared that the company’s products are mainly exported to the European market.

Therefore, for several years, the firm has been focusing on green certification, using renewable energy in production, and utilising environmentally friendly materials that minimise emissions.

To promote green transition, the provincial People’s Committee recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with conglomerate Vingroup to develop Bac Giang under a green economic model.

Under this agreement, both parties will cooperate to establish a green transition, green growth, and sustainable development programme for Bac Giang for the 2025-2030 period.

Key areas of focus include green tourism, green transportation, and green lifestyles. Specifically, in the field of transportation, the province is working with Vingroup to launch a movement to promote the use of electric vehicles.

Nguyen Viet Oanh, Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee, stated that the MoU is an important step toward building a greener, smarter, and more sustainable Bac Giang.

He expressed his hope that in the future, the group would help Bac Giang strongly promote green transition in the transport sector; develop carbon credit projects; attract investment, support businesses, encourage research in smart manufacturing, electronics, and mechanics, join Vingroup's supply chain, and raise public awareness of green transition and sustainable development.

In addition, the province will prioritise attracting sustainable foreign direct investment (FDI), based on principle of “no pollution, use of minimal land and labour, high technology, high capital efficiency, and high economic effectiveness” to develop new green industries and minimise industries that generate large amounts of waste, causing pollution and environmental degradation.

Currently, the province is also continuing to direct investment towards the construction of industrial parks and clusters in line with circular economy and ecological industry models.
