Bac Giang starts lychee consumption activities
BAC GIANG - With a total growing area of more than 29,700 hectares, Bac Giang is expecting a bumper lychee harvest this year. With just over a month to go before the fruit ripens, local authorities and businesses have proactively begun preparations to ensure smooth distribution.
As an enterprise specializing in the processing and export of agricultural products, Vifoco Import-Export Joint Stock Company, based in Bac Giang City, has been making early preparations for this year’s lychee season.

According to the company’s leadership, last year Vifoco exported 70 tonnes of fresh lychees to Europe. This year, the company plans to expand both scale and order volume, aiming to export 600 tonnes of fresh lychees and processed products to markets such as Europe, the U.S and Thailand.
To achieve this target, the company has invested in a cold storage facility with a capacity of over 1,000 cubic meters to secure raw materials for production and has set up two production lines specifically designed for the U.S. and European markets.
This year, Bac Giang has over 29,700 hectares of lychee orchards. Thanks to favorable weather conditions, flowering and fruit-bearing rates are high, promising a productive season. The early harvest is expected to begin around May 20, 2025. |
Particularly, noteworthy is the company’s success in applying rapid freezing technology to preserve lychees, which helps maintain their color and quality for an extended period. With this innovation, consumers will no longer have to wait for the lychee season to enjoy the fruit, as lychee products will be available year-round.
This approach also helps increase product value and reduce the consumption pressure on growers during the peak harvest period, especially if production scale and storage capacity are expanded.
According to Do Linh Nham, Deputy Director of Global Food Import-Export Joint Stock Company, based in Chu Township, the company will continue to maintain its traditional export markets this year, including the U.S., China, Thailand and Japan.
Its key products include fresh lychees, frozen canned lychee pulp and lychee juice, with plans to purchase more than 5,000 tonnes of raw lychees. All equipment and machinery have been prepared and the company has also conducted surveys and reached agreements with growers.
In Tan Yen district, where early-harvest lychees are grown across 1,036 hectares, two enterprises have signed contracts to purchase a total of 700 tonnes of lychees. Specifically, Mova Plus JSC committed to purchasing 500 tonnes while Dragonberry JSC signed for 200 tonnes with stable prices agreed upon.
According to the provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment, in addition to local companies, five major enterprises have signed product purchasing contracts for thousands of tonnes of lychees.
Many other companies have also visited local orchards to survey growing areas and prepare for purchasing once the harvest begins. Some businesses are working closely with farmers to help them meet the quality standards required by international markets.

Recently, a working delegation from the province met with major distributors in Ho Chi Minh City, opening up new opportunities for Bac Giang lychees in this important market.
By the end of April, the province will hold a lychee promotion conference with the participation of central and local authorities as well as representatives from several provinces and cities.
The province is also coordinating with leading logistics companies to finalize packaging specifications, labeling and the establishment of professional collection points to ensure that Bac Giang lychees reach both domestic and international consumers as quickly as possible while maintaining the highest quality.
