Bac Giang improves lychee quality, expands consumption market
BAC GIANG - On the morning of April 10, Vice Chairman of the Bac Giang Provincial People's Committee (PPC) Pham Van Thinh chaired a working session with the People's Committee of Tan Yen district on production and preparation of conditions for lychee promotion and consumption in 2025.
Thanks to favorable weather condition in late 2024 and early 2025, the rate of flowering lychee hits over 95%. As of April 9, the fruit set rate reached over 85% of the area. The flowering and fruit bearing time is 7-10 days later than last year.

The total area of lychee is 1,375 hectares with an estimated output of 15,500 tonnes (an increase of 500 tonnes compared to 2024), including 1,250 hectares of early ripening lychee with an estimated output of 15,000 tonnes and 455 hectares of lychee grown in line with VietGAP and GlobalGAP standards.
In 2025, the lychee consumption situation is forecast to be favorable with lychee ripening and harvesting starting from May 25, ending around mid-June. The total lychee output is estimated at about 15,500 tonnes, including 3,500 tonnes for domestic consumption, 12,000 tonnes for export, up 1,000 tonnes compared to 2024 figure. Particularly, Chinese market consumes about 9,500 tonnes.
Concluding the meeting, PPC Vice Chairman Pham Van Thinh requested the People's Committee of Tan Yen district and related units to closely follow weather developments to direct production, guide cooperatives, cooperative groups and lychee growing households to well implement and comply with production processes to improve productivity, ensure quality and food safety.
Also, the competent agencies should strengthen management and supervision of growing areas and packaging facilities; review and update the implementation of regulations on growing area codes and lychee packaging facilities for export.

Relevant departments and units were urged to research good, creative and effective ways to link production households, establish associations and groups linking production and consumption of lychee in the district to cooperate and share cultivation techniques; well communicate, promote and consume lychee.
To support Tan Yen district in improving product quality, he suggested the Department of Agriculture and Environment to focus on forecasting the situation of pests and diseases, guiding the implementation of technical measures for cultivation and care of lychees according to VietGAP, GlobalGAP, organic processes in order to meet consumption standards both domestically and internationally, especially demanding markets such as the United States, Japan and EU among others.
During the working programme, PPC Vice Chairman Pham Van Thinh and the delegation visited some lychee production models in Phuc Hoa commune.
