Viet Yen township opens Bo Da Pagoda Festival and Quan Ho Folk Song Festival

BAC GIANG – The People's Committee of Viet Yen township (Bac Giang province) on March 15 (the 16th day of second lunar month) held the opening ceremony of Bo Da pagoda festival and the 24th Quan Ho folk song festival in 2025 at the special national historical and architectural relic site of Bo Da pagoda.  

Delivering the opening speech at the festival, Deputy Secretary of Viet Yen township Party Committee and Chairman of the Township People's Committee Nguyen Dai Luong said that Bo Da pagoda is not only an ancient scenic spot but also a cultural center with many unique values.

Nguyen Van Gau, member of the Party Central Committee and Secretary of the Bac Giang Provincial Party Committee, beats the drum to open the festival.

The pagoda owns the national treasure of the world's oldest Lam Te Zen Buddhist sutra woodblocks, the largest tower garden in Vietnam and many other valuable heritages.

In particular, the Bo Da Pagoda Festival was recognized as a national intangible cultural heritage in 2017.

Long time ago, Bo Da Pagoda Festival was a meeting place for the brothers (male vocalists) and sisters (female vocalists) of the Quan Ho homeland on the northern bank of the Cau River which was also one of the biggest festivals in the ancient Kinh Bac region.

This year’s festival took place from March 15 to 17 with many solemn rituals and meaningful cultural activities.

This was an opportunity for people and tourists to return to their roots, pay tribute to their ancestors, preserve and promote traditional cultural values.

Recognizing the importance of Bo Da Pagoda Festival and Quan Ho folk songs in spiritual and cultural life, in recent times, the Party committees and authorities at all levels have focused on preserving and promoting the value of the festival and traditional art forms.

To date, Viet Yen township has 18 Quan Ho villages recognized by UNESCO, 3 People's Artists, 19 Meritorious Artists and more than 60 Quan Ho clubs operating actively.

The 24th Quan Ho Folk Song Festival of Viet Yen township was held within the framework of the Bo Da Pagoda festival. It was not only an opportunity for the female and male vocalists to express their love for Quan Ho art but also an opportunity for the younger generations to learn, preserve and promote traditional cultural values.

The festival also featured various attractive cultural and sports activities, attracting the attention of people and tourists such as calligraphy performance and display of craft village products, Quan Ho singing festival, special art programs, cultural exchanges and folk games.
