The 2025 Tieu Mai boat rowing festival takes place in an exciting manner. |
Legends say that when the Song enemy invaded our country, Ly Thuong Kiet built a battle line on the Nhu Nguyet River to stop them.
During those days, Tieu Mai villagers often used boats to help Ly Thuong Kiet's army cross the river, creating a surprise attack on the enemy, contributing to the glorious victory in 1077.
The rowing festival originated from the performance of Ly Thuong Kiet's victory at Nhu Nguyet against the Song invaders with many typical traditional cultural features, helping honor the national contributors through solemn rituals demonstrating martial spirit of the Kinh Bac people.
It was the first season after the festival was recognized as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage. This year Tieu Mai village’s boat rowing festival gathered 9 teams. Of which, 3 teams of elders participated in the worship rowing ceremony and 6 teams of young men from 3 villages were divided into 2 groups.
Despite the dizzy weather, the exciting tournament still attracted a large number of audiences.
