Vietnam delegation wins 4 gold medals at 2025 Sanda World Cup

BAC GIANG - The Sanda World Cup is organized by the International Wushu Federation (IWUF) every two years. This year, the tournament took place from April 5 to 10 in Jiangsu Province (China), bringing together nearly 200 athletes, coaches and officials from 26 countries and regions. 6 martial artists from the Vietnamese wushu team participated and all entered the final round.

In the final match on the evening of April 9, martial artist Nguyen Thi Thu Thuy of Bac Giang Province Sports Training and Competition Center faced off against Iranian athlete Semiromi - who had an advantage in height.

The two rounds of the final match were tense. With a strong will to compete, flexibility in fighting style and taking full advantage of her opponent's weaknesses, the girl from Bac Giang defeated Semiromi with a score of 2-0 and won the gold medal.

Thu Thuy was born in 1998 in Ngoc Chau commune (Tan Yen district). She is an excellent name of Vietnamese wushu who has participated and won many medals in major domestic and international tournaments, typically gold medal at women's 60 kg weight class of 2023 Sanda World Cup held in the US.

Up to now, she has won a total of 8 medals at the world youth championships, world cup championships and world championships, including 2 gold medals, 4 silver medals and 2 bronze medals).

In addition, the female martial artist also won 2 silver medals and 1 bronze medal at continental tournaments; a gold medal at the 31st SEA Games. Since 2012, she has bagged about 20 gold medals at national championships and youth tournaments.

The final match for the Vietnamese team featured Huynh Do Dat against Yat Lam Cheung from Hong Kong (China). World champion Dat dominated the 70kg category, winning decisively with a score of 2-0 to secure another gold medal.

Vietnam's wushu team finished second at 2025 Sanda World Cup with 4 gold medals, 2 silver medals after the Chinese team.

The 4 martial artists who won gold medals included Nguyen Thi Lan, Nguyen Thi Thu Thuy (Bac Giang); Dinh Van Tam (Quang Ngai); Huynh Do Dat (Quang Nam).

In July this year, the Vietnamese wushu team will continue to participate in the 2025 Asian Cup for the events of taolu (performance) and sanshou (combat).
