Bac Giang star runner Nguyen Thi Oanh defends her throne at Tien Phong Marathon for 9 consecutive times

BAC GIANG - On March 30, the 66th National Marathon and Long Distance Championship 2025 of Tien Phong Newspaper took place in Dong Ha City (Quang Tri province) with 7,000 participating athletes. Tien Phong Marathon is a major annual tournament, gathering outstanding runners of Vietnamese athletics in medium and long distances.

This year, athletes competed in individual events at the following distances of 21.1 km, 42.195 km for men and women, elite and amateur categories; 10 km for elite men, young men, amateur men and women; 5 km for elite women, young women, amateur men and women.

Athlete Nguyen Thi Oanh finishes first in the women's 5km elite distance.

In addition, athletes from provincial, municipal and industry teams also competed for team and group points. The running route of each distance passed through locations that bear the unique mark of Dong Ha city such as bridges, dams to prevent saltwater intrusion, railway bridges interwoven with Hieu River; winding slopes and forests across Khe May Lake among others.

The Bac Giang sports delegation participated in different categories of elite women, young women (5 km); elite men, young men (10 km) and 21.1 km.

There was no surprise at 5km elite women event when the SEA Games champion maintained an outstanding performance and reached the finish line first with a time of 16 minutes and 19 seconds (25 seconds faster than her 2024 achievement), helping her successfully defend championship for the 9th time, winning gold medal at 5 km distance at Tien Phong marathon.

In addition, athletes Nguyen Thi Oanh, Le Thuy Linh, Nguyen Hai Yen of Bac Giang also won Bronze Medals in the women's team event.
