More than 80% of lychee areas at flowering and fruit bearing stage
BAC GIANG – The lychee in Bac Giang province is currently in the development stage of flower clusters with high flowering rate of over 90% in early ripening lychee and 85% of main-season lychee, reported the Division of Plant Protection and Production (Department of Agriculture and Rural Development).
However, in some lychee growing areas, the flower clusters show signs of slow and uneven development with small clusters. The main reason is that the weather has been dry for months with little rain together with prolonged cold spells since early February.

The Division of Plant Protection and Production recommended that for early-ripening lychees, farmers should focus on watering sufficiently, fertilizing in balance, and using foliar fertilizers to facilitate flowering and pollination so as to increase the ability to bear fruit.
For the main season lychees, it is necessary to irrigate sufficiently, add foliar fertilizers rich in phosphorus and micronutrients such as boron, combined with growth regulators to stimulate flower cluster development and increase flower quality.
For lychees that flower with buds, farmers should remove young buds to concentrate nutrients on feeding flowers and fruits; use foliar preparations that inhibit young buds to help the tree develop flowers.
At the same time, the farmers should monitor the development and damage of pests and diseases to have timely and effective prevention and control measures.

Prices of the premium Luc Ngan lychee have jumped five-fold from a year ago due to low supply but many people are willing to pay them.
BAC GIANG - At this time, farmers in Luc Ngan district (Bac Giang province) are harvesting the remaining lychee. This year's lychee yield is low so traders directly visit each garden to buy the special fruit at high prices.
