Bac Giang enjoys smooth lychee season in 2024 with record selling price
BAC GIANG - Compared to previous years, Bac Giang’s lychee output in 2024 decreased sharply but established the highest price level ever, contributing to increase the revenue from lychees. From this result, the northern province gains more experience in directing production and promoting consumption for the following lychee seasons.
So far, local farmers in the province have basically finished harvesting and consuming lychees. According to the Department of Industry and Trade, the province consumed nearly 86,000 tonnes of lychees (48,000 tonnes of early ripening lychee and 38,000 tonnes of main season fruits).

Lychee was consumed smoothly in both domestic and export markets. About 61,000 tonnes were sold domestically at wholesale market system, traditional markets, supermarkets and commercial floors….
Nearly 25,000 tonnes were exported to different markets, mainly to China (more than 24,500 tonnes) and a number of countries and territories such as EU (53 tonnes), Japan (45 tonnes), Australia (42 tonnes ), United States (20 tonnes), Dubai (21 tonnes), Canada 16 (tonnes), Southeast Asian countries (18 tonnes).
Lychee prices sharply increased from the early season, 2-3 times higher than in 2023, on average ranging from 55 – 85,000VND (2.3 – 3.6 USD) per kg, highest ever.
The price increase was due to low output of the main lychee crop, leading to insufficient supply. In addition, all levels and sectors from the central to local levels have paid due attention to trade promotion and export support for many years, helping promote the consumption habits for lychees in domestic and international markets as well as raise the brand value and economic value of the product.
Thanks to that, although output decreased, revenue from lychee and ancillary services were estimated to reach more than 5,760 billion VND (over 244 million USD) (compared to more than 6,876 billion VND in 2023 season).
Of which, revenue from lychee consumption was estimated at over 4,800 billion VND, equivalent to an average price of nearly 56,200 VND per kg, 2.4 times higher than the average price in 2023. Due to decreased fruit output, the revenue from supporting service reached about 960 billion VND, a sharp decrease compared to 2023.
2024 also marked the success of lychee consumption activities associated with garden tourism. This season, Phuc Hoa commune attracted thousands of tourists, with many large groups of hundreds of people.

Meanwhile, in lychee season, Luc Ngan district welcomed about 250-260,000 visitors, including about 245-254,000 domestic visitors and 5-6,000 foreign visitors, an increase of about 10% compared to 2023.
Specially, visitors not only bought products but also took photos and videos then posted on social networking platforms. It helps many people at home and abroad know about Bac Giang's lychee products.
This year lychee season ended in Bac Giang. Although the joy is not yet complete, it helps authorities and producers clearly see the advantages and limitations to have directions for the next year.
However, the product quality is still the key to a favorable consumption and firm position on the market. The province will continue to link consumption with fruit-season tourism to promote the local special fruits.
