Lychee prices hit record high at season end
BAC GIANG - At this time, farmers in Luc Ngan district (Bac Giang province) are harvesting the remaining lychee. This year's lychee yield is low so traders directly visit each garden to buy the special fruit at high prices.
According to the Luc Ngan district Division of Economics and Infrastructure, the local farmers have basically finished harvesting the main lychee crop. Only some communes growing lychees on the pass such as: Ho Dap, Son Hai, Deo Gia... still have few quantity left.

Because the left quantity of lychee is still small, traders go to the garden to buy it at record high prices, ranging from 90-100,000 VND (3.82 – 4.24 USD) per kg. Luc Ngan's average lychee price for the whole crop is estimated at 80,000 VND/kg.
The Department of Industry and Trade said due to adverse weather, the province's lychee output reached about 100,000 tonnes, equal to 50% of last year productivity.
However, the price of lychee from the first days of the season highly increased, with an average price hitting over 56,000 VND/kg for the whole season, the highest ever.
So far, Bac Giang has consumed more than 85,700 tonnes of lychees, including over 47,600 tonnes of early ripening lychee and the rest of main season fruit.
The province's lychee is consumed favorably both in the domestic and export markets. Bac Giang exported more than 24,700 tonnes of lychees, accounting for more than 28.9% of total consumption. The domestic consumption output reached more than 60,900 tonnes, accounting for more than 71%.
