Vietnam makes strides in five-decade development: Expert

Updated: 08:38, 26/04/2025

Prof. Dr. Joseph Van Vo, President of the Association of Vietnamese Scientists and Experts (AVSE Global), applauded Vietnam’s remarkable development over the five decades since the reunification of the country, stressing that the country is emerging as one of the most dynamic economies in the Asia-Pacific region.

Talking to Vietnam News Agency correspondents in the US, Vo highlighted the great progress in the Vietnam – US relationship over the past 30 years, from the normalisation of relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

He viewed this as clear evidence of Vietnam’s rapid development in the global economic landscape, noting that the country is now regarded as one of the five "tiger cup economies" in the region, with bright spots in exports and international integration.

Statistics from 2024 show that Vietnam's trade surplus with the US exceeded 100 billion USD. Although the surplus favours Vietnam, Vo noted that the Vietnamese Government is proactively making adjustments to create a more balanced bilateral trade.

In the field of education, Vo, who has taught at universities in the US since 1996, praised the capabilities of Vietnamese students.

He believed that with proper investment in research and postgraduate training, Vietnamese students have great potential to contribute significantly to the country's science and economy.

Regarding technology, he spotlighted Vietnam’s efforts to build a solid digital infrastructure, saying that the Government has implemented many policies to support the development of digital technology and artificial intelligence sectors.

He revealed that AVSE Global is currently collaborating with domestic universities and organisations to implement several advanced technology projects.

According to the expert, Vietnam has the potential to become a technological hub in the Asia-Pacific region, especially in artificial intelligence (AI).

He expressed his hope that in the next 30 years, Vietnam will achieve a development rate twice or even three times faster than in the past three decades.

AVSC Global was established 14 years ago, with its headquarters in France. It operates in various fields such as economy, education, health care, and is providing consultancy for development projects in Vietnam.
