Six-lane expressway linking Bac Giang, Thai Nguyen and Vinh Phuc officially opens
Thai Nguyen province has just inaugurated the section of Belt Road No. 5 running through Thai Nguyen, connecting Phu Binh district with Bac Giang and Vinh Phuc provinces.
This section of the expressway, which passes through Pho Yen City and Phu Binh District, spans more than 18 kilometers.

It was constructed under Decision No. 1454 issued by the Prime Minister on September 1, 2021. The six-lane expressway was built to high-speed standards with a total investment of nearly 1,784 billion VND (78 million USD).
The launch of this section of Belt Road No. 5 is expected to form a high-capacity East-West transport axis, enhancing inter-regional connectivity between Phu Binh, Pho Yen, Bac Giang and linking directly with the Hanoi–Thai Nguyen expressway as well as the regional connection routes of Bac Giang, Thai Nguyen and Vinh Phuc.
Moreover, the project enables direct transportation links from industrial parks, export processing zones and potential land plots along the route to the Hanoi–Thai Nguyen expressway.
This helps strengthen connectivity to Noi Bai Airport, the capital Hanoi and various industrial parks in Bac Ninh province.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has requested the completion of the North – South expressway from the northern mountainous province of Cao Bang to the southernmost province of Ca Mau by this year’s end.
The Ministry of Construction has proposed expanding the 1,144-km eastern wing of North-South expressway from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City from four to six lanes, at an estimated cost of 152.1 trillion VND (around 6.2 billion USD).
PM Pham Minh Chinh asked Cao Bang and Lang Son provinces to mobilise the entire political system for effective site clearance, ensure an adequate supply of materials for the projects, and engage mass organisations and the police and military forces in supporting the contractors in the construction sites.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on February 1 attended a groundbreaking ceremony of a section on the Ho Chi Minh City – Thu Dau Mot – Chon Thanh expressway. Running through Binh Duong province, section is more than 52km long, and designed with six lanes, enabling vehicles with maximum speed of 100 km per hour.
Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha has recently signed Document No.673/TTg-CN requesting relevant ministries, branches and localities to deploy key tasks to strive to complete 3,000 km of expressway by the end of 2025, responding to the emulation movement launched by the Prime Minister.
