Vietnam launches new e-visa portal to facilitate foreigners' entry

Updated: 17:24, 09/11/2024

Starting Nov. 11, international travelers to Vietnam will be able to apply for electronic visas (e-visas) through a new web portal thithucdientu.gov.vn as part of Vietnam’s efforts to boost tourism.

The new portal will operate alongside the existing website evisa.xuatnhapcanh.gov.vn, which currently handles over 15,000 applications daily, according to the Ministry of Public Security’s Immigration Department.

Foreign tourists pose for group photos at Hai Van Gate along Hai Van Pass in central Vietnam, August 2024.

"The new website has been upgraded and improved, with a Frequently Asked Questions section available in both English and Vietnamese, making it more convenient for foreign visitors," a department representative stated.

Since Aug. 15 last year, Vietnam has issued 90-day e-visas for citizens from all countries and territories. However, many tourists have mistakenly entered their information on unofficial websites or submitted incorrect or incomplete information on the official portal, causing delays in processing e-visas.

Immigration officials advised applicants to ensure they are using the official e-visa portals and to complete all required fields accurately to avoid application rejections.

Between January and October, Vietnam welcomed over 14 million foreign tourists, up 41% year-on-year, and is on track to reach its annual target of 18 million.
