The provincial forest rangers have actively applied many technological solutions to carry out forest management, protection, development and fire prevention such as applying unmanned aerial vehicles (drone) to patrol and control forests.

Forest situations are transmitted to the Forest Monitoring, Management and Protection Center located at the Forest Ranger Sub-Department and information is also sent to the phone of the officer in charge of the area.

In addition, the provincial forest ranger agency is using automatic forest fire forecasting signs to carry out forest fire prevention and control work, applying information technology (IT) and using remote sensing images in forest management and monitoring.

According to Nguyen Ba Kien, Head of Yen The District Forest Ranger Agency, the unit has widely deployed the FRMS Mobile application installed on the smartphones of forest rangers to delineate and determine points of forest area fluctuations instead of using paper forest status maps to update forest developments.

In particular, implementing Resolution No. 111-NQ/TU dated June 11, 2021 of the Provincial Party Committee on digital transformation of Bac Giang province during 2021-2025 period, with a vision to 2030, Bac Giang Forest Ranger Sub-Department has implemented the project “The Forest Monitoring, Operating, Managing and Protecting Center in Bac Giang province”

Accordingly, with a budget of nearly 20 billion VND (842,478 USD), the unit has invested in installing 9 camera systems at peak points to observe and warn forest fires, deforestation and forest encroachment; 19 camera systems at forest gates to observe and give automatic alarm when people and vehicles appear at forest gate areas in the districts of Son Dong, Luc Ngan, Luc Nam, Yen The and Yen Dung.

According to the representative of Bac Giang Forest Ranger Sub-Department, the surveillance cameras are installed at the peaks. Each camera is capable of observing and recording within a range of more than 14 km with thousands of hectares of forest, detecting risks of forest encroachment and sending warning information to the central screen as well as smartphones, helping forest rangers determine the location, clearly observe the entire scene of the forest within the management area.

At the same time, the rangers can grasp the areas with high risk of fire to have early detection of fires, locations of deforestation activities; thus timely direction and handling plans can be developed.

Tu Quoc Huy, Head of Bac Giang Forest Ranger Sub-Department said: "This is considered an important solution to support and enhance the capacity of forest rangers to monitor, manage and protect forests, minimize damage to the province's forest resources".

The Bac Giang Forest Ranger Sub-Department has recently focused on upgrading IT infrastructure, equipping devices and software for forest management and protection. As a result, many violations were detected and promptly handled.

With the construction of the Forest Monitoring, Operating, Managing and Protecting Center, Bac Giang is considered a leading and outstanding province nationwide in applying this modern, smart technology to the issue of forest management and protection.

In the coming time, the forest rangers in Bac Giang province will continue to enhance their sense of responsibility and determination in implementing the goals and tasks of strictly managing and protecting natural forests, especially promoting the application of IT and digital transformation, considering this a key and continuous task of the unit, Huy said.
