A ceremony was held in the northern province of Bac Ninh on November 23 to celebrate the 15th anniversary of UNESCO recognition of Quan Ho singing as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

Speaking at the ceremony, NA Vice Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Thanh congratulated the Party Committee, authorities, and people of Bac Ninh Province on their remarkable and comprehensive achievements in socio-economic development, especially in preserving and promoting the values of Bac Ninh Quan Ho (love duet) singing — which is recognised as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

Amid the trends of globalisation, rapid development of communication technology, the emergence of various contemporary art forms and cultural exchange and integration, NA Vice Chairwoman Thanh noted that the preservation and promotion of Bac Ninh Quan Ho folk singing has faced significant challenges and difficulties.

She urged the Party Committees and authorities of Bac Ninh Province to continue prioritising and dedicating appropriate attention to the preservation and promotion of the cultural values of Bac Ninh Quan Ho folk songs.

She added that Bac Ninh Province should allocate resources to invest in infrastructure, develop performance spaces, and expand the environment for practicing heritage.

The province needs to allocate resources for infrastructure development, create performance spaces, and broaden the environment for practicing the heritage, thus enabling artisans and enthusiasts of Bac Ninh Quan Ho folk singing to showcase and cultivate their talents.

Within the province, there are currently 44 original Quan Ho villages, 150 villages practicing Quan Ho, and nearly 400 Quan Ho folk song clubs, involving tens of thousands of participants of all ages. Among them, more than 600 individuals are capable of teaching the heritage.

On this occasion, the prime minister awarded certificates of merit to two collectives and two individuals from Bac Ninh Province for their outstanding contributions to the preservation and promotion of the Bac Ninh Quan Ho folk singing heritage. The Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism also recognised and commended five collectives for their achievements.
