Bac Giang accelerates construction of high-voltage power grid projects

Updated: 07:47, 17/04/2025

BAC GIANG – The northern province of Bac Giang is currently the focus of investment by Vietnam Electricity (EVN) and industrial park infrastructure developers, with 26 high-voltage power grid projects underway to support the province’s rapidly growing industrial production.

According to the Bac Giang Power Company, electricity demand in the province has surged in recent years, with annual consumption growth rates ranging from 12.5% to over 18%, equivalent to an average increase of approximately 700 million kWh of commercial electricity per year. The highest growth has been recorded in the province's industrial zones.

To meet the development timelines of power source and grid projects under the approved national power development plan, and to ensure power supply for Bac Giang’s socio-economic development, the National Power Transmission Corporation, the Northern Power Corporation (under EVN), and local industrial park developers are implementing 26 high-voltage grid projects in the province, with a total investment of 6.75 trillion VND (270 million USD).

Among the 26 projects, seven remain unfinished—four of which are delayed due to site clearance issues, while the remaining three are pending approval for investment policy.

Recognising these challenges, during his working visit to Bac Giang on March 27, Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien urged EVN, local authorities, and industrial park developers to coordinate closely to remove bottlenecks, especially in land clearance, to accelerate progress on the grid projects.

In recent weeks, provincial leaders have held multiple working sessions with district, township, and city People's Committees, as well as relevant departments and agencies, to address outstanding issues.

Key tasks being expedited include site surveys, compensation, land clearance for power line corridors and project locations, adjustments to the general plan of Bo Ha town, and investment policy approvals.

Nguyen Duc Hoan, Deputy Director of the provincial Department of Industry and Trade, stated that the province has submitted investment plans for four other grid projects to the Ministry of Finance and their feasibility study reports to the Ministry of Industry and Trade for approval.

Relevant departments are actively coordinating to verify, evaluate, and guide investors in preparing necessary documentation to ensure timely implementation of the remaining projects.

A reliable power supply is essential for Bac Giang to attract investment and drive sustainable industrial development.

As such, local authorities call on all stakeholders, especially residents affected by land recovery, to raise awareness and cooperate with the government to facilitate the timely completion and commissioning of these power grid projects.
