Import-export activities seize opportunities from China’s reopening

Updated: 18:21, 16/01/2023
(BGO) - On January 8, 2023, China restored normal operations at border gates with Vietnam and removed Covid-19 testing measures. This opens up great opportunities for the goods import and export of localities, including Bac Giang.

Fast and convenient customs clearance

Over the past week, Hung Thao Import-Export and Trading Co., Ltd in Luc Ngan district has exported agricultural products to China quite smoothly when the country removed a number of anti-pandemic restrictions.

Every day, the unit ships about 200 tons of durian and mango through Huu Nghi and Tan Thanh border gates in Lang Son province. Thanks to favorable customs clearance, the prices of agricultural products such as dragon fruit, durian, mango and jackfruit have increased.

Bac Giang BGG Garment Corporation in Bac Giang city imports main production materials from China. Previously, it mainly imported raw materials by sea, but now they can gradually switch to road, carrying goods to its warehouses more quickly.

According to a representative of JA Solar Vietnam Co., Ltd., based in the Quang Chau Industrial Park, all procedures were resolved quickly and conveniently, helping the company ensure the supply of raw materials for production according to orders for partners.

Opportunities become clear from Q2

China is a large, traditional market and the main consumer of many export industries of Bac Giang. The import-export turnover in 2022 between Bac Giang and the Chinese market reached more than 16 billion USD, accounting for 37% of the province's total trade.

On January 8, China officially reopened after three years of implementing the "Zero Covid" policy. Employing the new policy, China allows vehicles carrying export goods to go directly to the border gate area for customs clearance and transport to China. This offers opportunities for the import and export of domestic goods, which will become clear from the second quarter of 2023.

Regarding imports, raw materials and machinery for industrial production will be cleared more smoothly and quickly. Currently there are 13 official fresh agricultural products exported to China via official channels, including sweet potato, bird's nest, dragon fruit, longan, rambutan, mango, jackfruit, watermelon, banana, mangosteen, lychee, passion fruit and durian. Dried and canned fruit products, cereal flour and processed wood also benefit from this policy.

Seizing the opportunity and preparing for this year's lychee harvest, the Department of Industry and Trade of Bac Giang has urged localities to observe Orders 248 and 249 by the General Administration of Customs of China on "Regulations on Registration Management for Foreign Imported Food Manufacturers", and "Measures on Import-Export Food Safety Management".

Accordingly, lychee production areas and packing establishments that have not been granted codes need to urgently carry out procedures for code issuance before the lychee harvest comes. The department has organized training for businesses and cooperatives on this content, contributing to facilitating lychee exports to China. Regarding the enterprise registration code, under Order 248, enterprises can use the registration code issued by the competent authority of the exporting country or the General Administration of Customs of China.

According to the Lang Son Center for Industry Extension and Trade Promotion, about 1,200 vehicles carrying import and export goods run through Huu Nghi, Tan Thanh, Chi Ma, Tan Thanh and Coc Nam border gates every day on average. Of which, more than 500 vehicles transport exports, mainly fresh fruit. Especially, there are no trucks to turn back or change border gates.

Pham Cong Toan, Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Trade, said: “Currently, every day, the department closely follows the situation at the border gates of Lang Son, Lao Cai and Quang Ninh provinces. It also provides specific information to businesses, thereby capturing their emerging difficulties for timely resolution. Companies that face problems can contact the department for assistance”.
