The Secret of Tet
Tet (Lunar New Year) is a profound symbol of Vietnamese culture, tradition and soul. Along with the brilliant beauty of the first days of spring, Tet also contains immeasurable spiritual values. These “secrets” lie not only in the customs and practices but also in the thoughts, emotions and hopes of each person when entering the new year.
In modern language, one of the important messages of Tet is family reunion. In modern life today, Tet is becoming an increasingly rare occasion for people to return to their families, to strengthen their closeness after a long time apart.

Writer Tran Chien — an author of many works about Hanoi, who has lived in Hanoi's Old Quarter for a long time — shared that, for Tet, we must at least worship on the afternoon of the 30th, New Year's Eve, and the morning of the 1st.
The most attractive thing about Tet for Tran Chien is that every year the rhythm of time repeats itself, and after a night of drizzling rain, the sky and earth, especially the leaves and branches, change so much.
From the port city of Hai Phong, artist Dang Tien also affirmed that for Vietnamese people, Tet is an occasion for family reunion. Everyone happily reunites, wishes for good things, and sits together around a meal, so cozy and happy!
This is also an occasion for people to remember their ancestors. "No matter how poor they are, since ancient times, people have prepared trays of food, fruits to place on the altar; and offered incense with a sincere heart to their ancestors.
So, until now, although Tet has changed a lot, in everyone's soul, they still wait for the moment when Tet comes and spring returns," the artist expressed.
In addition to family reunion, Tet is also an occasion for everyone to look inward, reflect on their roots, family and traditional values.
Writer Di Li emphasised that Tet is a time for families to gather together, even if some members work far away.
Offerings to show respect to ancestors and gods are not only an act of respect but also a way to preserve and promote traditional cultural values of the nation. Tet is a time for people to look back on the past, learn from experiences and prepare mentally for new challenges in the new year.
Another important element of Tet is reconciliation and forgiveness. Throughout the year, life is full of ups and downs, difficulties and challenges that can make people feel tired and stressed at times.
Tet brings an opportunity for people to forgive each other, forget the unhappy things and look forward to better things in the future. People often say warm and close wishes to each other, expressing optimism, hope for a promising new beginning and closing old stories, opening new chapters in life.
Tet is also an occasion to preserve and promote the unique traditional cultural features of the nation. Traditional activities such as decorating the house with peach blossoms, apricot blossoms, fruit trays, and other traditional items not only beautify the living space but also symbolise reunion and luck.
Writer Tran Chien remembers the image of women living in the old quarter decorating their houses with peach blossoms and daffodils, creating a meaningful Tet space.
Tet is also a time for people to find peace of mind and restore good memories. Tet harmoniously combines tradition and modern spirit, creating a special and meaningful holiday for everyone. In a busy and constantly changing modern life, Tet still holds an important position as a spiritual support.
These are the very simple and profound secrets that each of us often know, and when Tet comes, we feel excited to receive and discover them with fond memories and endless nostalgia.
