A short film marking one year since the tragedy of 39 Vietnamese migrants being found dead in a lorry trailer in Essex (UK) made by Vietnam's major English language daily (Viet Nam News) under the Vietnam News Agency has been selected as one of the official submissions at the Pune International Film Festival in India in October.

The nearly 30-minute film, entitled “One year on since the Essex lorry tragedy”, was produced by journalist Paul Kennedy as video journalist and copy editor and Ho Hoang as a producer.

The film records the suffering of the relatives of victims as well as their neighbours and representatives of local authorities in Yen Thanh District, Nghe An Province.

Notably, the authors also met a person who had fled to England and fortunately returned home.

The film aims to commemorate the victims of the tragedy while warning those who intend to attempt illegal migration.

On October 18, 2020, the film was published on YouTube and Viet Nam News as well as broadcast on Vietnam News Agency Television’s channel. In addition to Vietnamese people, it has attracted the attention of various viewers from the UK, the US, Canada, Thailand, Malaysia, Australia, France and Cayman.
