Vietnam, China open two temporary cross-border routes
Vietnam and China on November 17 opened two temporary cross-border corridors to facilitate travel, trade and people-to-people exchanges.
The first route links Malipo county, Wenshan Zhuang and Miao Autonomous prefecture of southwest China's Yunnan province with Nghia Thuan commune, Quang Ba district, Ha Giang province of Vietnam.

The other connects China’s Yang Wan township with Bach Dich commune, Yen Minh district, Ha Giang province.
These are important border roads for residents on both sides of the border. The two routes will promote exchanges between people in the border areas of the two countries and cooperation between the Wenshan Zhuang and Miao Autonomous prefecture and Ha Giang province.
Authorities of the northern border province of Lang Son and Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region of China held an online signing ceremony for a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to jointly develop a pilot smart border gate.
The value of trade flows through the Huu Nghi international border gate in the northeastern province of Lang Son surpassed 2.5 billion USD as of the end of October, up 13% year-on-year.
From September 23 to September 25, at the invitation of the National Immigration Administration of China, the Vietnam Border Guard Command and Ministry of National Defence delegation visited China and attended the political exchange.
The total export-import turnover through the Mong Cai International Border Gate in the northern province of Quang Ninh in the first eight months of 2024 reached 2.64 million USD, marking a 24% increase year-over-year, while 265 new businesses began operation in the area.
Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long has signed to issue Decision 865/QD-TTg approving a pilot project on building smart border checkpoints at a specialised freight transport routes through the areas of Border Markers No.1119 – 1120 and No.1088/2 – 1089 of the Huu Nghi (Vietnam) – Youyi Guan (China) International Border Gate Pair.
