Vietnamese team determined to achieve high results
The Vietnamese delegation to the 2024 Paris Paralympic Games consists of 14 members, including four officials, three coaches, and seven athletes competing in three sports: powerlifting, swimming, and athletics.
The seven athletes include Le Van Cong (powerlifting), Nguyen Binh An (powerlifting), Dang Thi Linh Phuong (powerlifting), Chau Hoang Tuyet Loan (powerlifting), Do Thanh Hai (swimming), Le Tien Dat (swimming), and Pham Nguyen Khanh Minh (athletics), all from Ho Chi Minh City.

In preparation for this edition of the Paralympic Games, since the beginning of 2024, the athletes have been receiving the highest training and have been actively practicing and refining their techniques with the coaching staff at the National Sports Training Centres in Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang. Do Thanh Hai and Le Tien Dat will take part in the swimming events from the afternoon of September 1, while the athletics and powerlifting teams will compete on September 4 and 5.
As in the previous two editions, the goal of the Vietnamese Paralympic delegation is to win medals. Based on performances in recent games, powerlifter Le Van Cong is the team's biggest hope. Despite being 40 years old and having participated in four previous Paralympic Games, La Van Cong remains in excellent condition and is determined to win a medal in the 49kg powerlifting event.
He previously won a gold medal at the 2016 Paralympic Games with a lift of 183 kg and a silver medal at the 2020 Paralympic Games with a lift of 173 kg. Meanwhile, his teammate, powerlifter Nguyen Binh An — the Asian champion and bronze medallist at the 2023 ASEAN Para Games — will compete in the men's 54 kg category and is also expected to achieve a high result.
In swimming, Le Tien Dat, who won the gold medal in the men's 100m breaststroke SB5 category at the 4th ASEAN Para Games, is also anticipated to win a medal based on his recent training achievements.
