1.5 ton bomb cache found on building site

Vietnam's military discovered 1.5 tons of unexploded bombs and bullets while building a housing unit in the central province of Quang Tri.

While digging the foundations for a home meant to house the engineer platoon under the province’s Military Command in Cua Tung Town of Vinh Linh District, authorities uncovered a stash of unexploded ordnance, including 30 artillery shells weighing from 25 to 117 kilograms, 100 detonators, and 20 detonated mines.

On Monday, all the explosives were moved to a safe disposal site.

From 1954 to 1972, Ben Hai River in Quang Tri was a temporary demarcation line between the south and north Vietnam during the Vietnam War.

Quang Tri, as a result, suffered the most bombings throughout the war that lasted from 1955 to 1975, with 83 percent of its area contaminated by explosive remnants of war.
