Ceremony marks 1010th anniversary of Thang Long – Hanoi

The Hanoi city’s authorities held a ceremony at King Ly Thai To flower garden on October 10 to mark the 1010th anniversary of Thang Long – Hanoi.

In his speech, Politburo member and Secretary of Hanoi municipal Party Committee Vuong Dinh Hue said that since King Ly Thai To decided to relocate the capital from Hoa Lu in the northern province of Ninh Binh to Thang Long (now Hanoi), Thang Long – Hanoi has established itself as a heroic capital and a national political, administrative, cultural, educational, scientific and technological centre.

He stressed that throughout history, Thang Long – Hanoi has symbolised Vietnamese people’s aspirations for peace and has contributed to the peace, progress and happiness of humankind. The city has also actively and responsibly participated in many important international forums, he added.

He noted with pleasure that Hanoi has gained remarkable achievements and its image has been continuously promoted in the international arena, affirming that the city’s Party committee and people are determined to exert every effort to build Hanoi into a more beautiful, modern and civilised city, true to its titles as the Heroic City, the City For Peace and the Creative City.

Participants at the event were entertained with colourful art performances recalling the 1010-year history of Hanoi, its cultural values and achievements during the development and integration process.

Also on the evening of October 10, an Ao Dai fashion show was organised at an outdoor stage at 2 Le Thai To street in Hoan Kiem district, Hanoi by the district’s Centre of Culture, Information and Sports.

The Ao Dai designs featured at the show were part of collections by prestigious fashion brand including My Color, Thao Tay, Ta Ninh Dan, Khoi Nguyen and Minh Hung.

The Kim Dong Publishing House recently released two publications to celebrate the 1010th anniversary of Thang Long – Hanoi.

The first one is ‘Hang Rong Va Nhung Tieng Rao Ha Noi’ (Street Vendors and Street Cries in Hanoi), introducing readers to sketches and paintings by 15 students of the Indochina Fine Arts Colleague (now the Vietnam Fine Arts University) in the early 20th century.

The second one entitled ‘An Tuong Ha Noi Tu Ky Hoa Cac Cong Trinh Thoi Phap’ (Impressions of Hanoi through Sketches of French-Styled Buildings), featuring 10 articles by researchers and managers plus nearly 200 sketches of French-styled building in the capital city by painters of the Hanoi-based Urban Sketchers Group.
