Large demand, age requirement relaxation offer more job opportunities for workers

Updated: 19:06, 13/11/2024

Bac Giang – The final months of the year are always a busy time for the labour market as businesses need additional workers to complete production plans and prepare for labour shortages after the Lunar New Year (Tet). The increasing demand provides workers with more opportunities to choose jobs that offer better wages and benefits.

According to the provincial Department of Labour, Invalids, and Social Affairs (DOLISA), from 2025 to 2030, businesses in the province will need approximately 90,000 workers each year.

An employee at the provincial Employment Service Center provides job counselling to a middle-aged worker.

In the fourth quarter of this year alone, 30 enterprises have registered to recruit more than 43,300 workers. The sectors and fields in need of labour include electronic components and equipment manufacturing, industrial electronics, solar batteries, and textiles.

Previously, workers aged over 35 often faced difficulties in finding jobs or maintaining employment at companies. However, due to the scarcity of available workers and the rising demand, firms are now relaxing age requirements. This has opened up many job opportunities, especially for workers from rural areas and those over 35.

Some businesses with significant recruitment needs include Newwing Interconnect Technology Bac Giang Co., Ltd. (Van Trung Industrial Park) with 12,900 positions; Hon Hai Technology Group (Quang Chau Industrial Park and Dinh Tram Industrial Park) with 10,000 positions; Luxshare-ICT Vietnam Co., Ltd. (Van Trung Industrial Park) with 3,500 positions; Lens Technology Vietnam Co., Ltd. (Quang Chau Industrial Park) with 3,000 positions; and Crystal Martin Vietnam Co., Ltd. (Quang Chau Industrial Park) with 2,000 positions.

For example, Telstar Vietnam Co., Ltd. in the Van Trung Industrial Park, which specializes in electronics manufacturing, is seeking nearly 300 unskilled workers. To meet this demand, the company has eased its age requirements. Previously, they only hired people aged 18 to under 35, but now the age limit extends to 45 years.

In addition to a base salary of 4.2 million VND (166 USD) per person per month, each worker receives monthly allowances, including position allowance, travel cost support, attendance and performance bonuses, with average monthly income ranging from 9 to 13 million VND.

As demand increases and supply decreases, companies must adjust their requirements, particularly in terms of age. This creates more job opportunities for middle-aged workers. In addition, they are offering better benefits to retain current employees and attract new ones.

To assist businesses in recruiting workers, since the beginning of the year, the provincial Employment Service Center has organized 70 job fairs, four career counseling seminars, and one job fair day, drawing the participation of about 300 businesses and more than 13,500 workers.

Deputy Director of the DOLISA Tran Van Ha stated that in the future, the department will continue to work with other sectors and localities to improve vocational training and career guidance for students after graduating from secondary school.

The agency will disseminate policies under the Employment Law for people in difficult areas, creating equal job opportunities across regions, he said, adding it will direct the provincial Employment Service Center to expand models of collaboration with businesses in on-the-spot training and workforce supply.

The center is currently partnering with three colleges—Vietnam-Korea Bac Giang College of Technology, Bac Giang College of Industrial Techniques, and Bac Giang Mountainous College—to organize internship programmes for students at companies which are in need of workers.
