Creating public consensus and solidarity

Updated: 07:39, 18/11/2017
(BGO) – The Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Central Committee’s chapters at all levels in the northern province of Bac Giang have affirmed their role in strengthening solidarity among people and contributing to socio-economic development via the successful organization of numerous movements and campaigns.

Representatives from the VFF committee in Hiep Hoa district presents house of great unity to the family of Vu Dinh Thoa in Nam Dong hamlet, Danh Thang commune.

Each residential area has a typical model

In recent years, Dinh Xuyen hamlet in Tan Dinh commune (Lang Giang district) has become cleaner thanks to the implementation of the campaign “All people unite to build new rural and civilized urban areas” in association with environmental protection, according to Ngo Van Kien, Secretary of the Party Committee and head of the front committee of the hamlet. With 169 households and over 600 people, the hamlet is divided into six inter-family groups responsible for garbage collection and transportation.

Such organizations as the associations of war veteran, women and youths are in charge of some public areas far from residential areas. The front committee encourages livestock breeders to build biogas plants and not discharge untreated waste to the environment. Regular inspections are conducted on a daily basis. Excellent groups will be rewarded on the occasion of the great national unity festival on November 18. Hoang Thi Toi, a member of the Rung Sac inter-family group, said “With 24 households, we share the task of carrying garbage to the gathering site. Every Saturday, people gather to clean up and pick up weeds along the roads”.

Meanwhile, in Hong Linh hamlet, An Thuong commune (Yen The district), 60 percent of people are Catholic followers who actively get involved in the local activities. In 2013, nearly 10 Catholic households donated hundreds of square meters of farming land to build the cultural house. Vice Chairwoman of the communal People’s Committee Nguyen Thi Thanh said four out of the 10 hamlets (including Hong Linh, Tan An, An Thanh and An Chau) in An Thuong commune are home to over 1,000 Catholic followers. “We define the building of the great national unity bloc as a key task and ask each member to follow each area to grasp aspirations of Catholic people to create closer relations”, she said.

Promoting role of member organizations

To promote the strength of the great national unity, the VFF’s provincial chapter builds an annual action programme and coordination mechanisms with the women’s and youth unions and the association of war veterans, focusing on building new rural and civilized urban areas. For example, the front committee in Dan Chu hamlet, Bac Lung commune (Luc Nam district) has assigned youths to plant trees alongside the roads and clean up streets on a weekly basis in order to build a residential area of environmental protection.

Meanwhile, farmers are encouraged to not use pesticides in agricultural production. So far, the province has maintained and developed nearly 2.500 environmental protection groups and around 6,000 inter-family groups to ensure order and security. The front committee has closely coordinated with other agencies to quickly grasp public opinions for timely resolution of people’s proposals.

Particularly, the front committees at all levels have promoted their role in mobilizing resources to reduce poverty and improve local living standards. Since the beginning of this year, the province has supported people in repairing and building nearly 200 houses worth nearly 3 billion VND (132,200 USD). The family of Dang Van Tung (born in 1939) in Doan Bai commune (Hiep Hoa district) is living in difficulty. He and his spouse are raising a little grandchild and earn a living from several “sao” (360 sq.m) of rice.

In 2016, from the “For the poor” fund, the district’s and commune’s front committees provided his family with 15 million VND (661 USD) to buy a cow to improve income. Tung shared that “The cow has given birth to a calf, and I take good care of them to have more income. When the calf grows up, my family will hand over to the district’s front committee to support other disadvantaged households”.

Tran Cong Thang, Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee, said the front committees at all levels need to improve the quality of campaigns and patriotic emulation movements while consolidating the staff, especially at the grassroots level, to better understand people’s aspirations and strengthen their solidarity. He urged expanding effective models at residential areas and paying attention to coordinating with member organizations to mobilize maximum resources for the effective implementation of emulation campaigns.
