HCMC to host record-breaking 10,500-drone show on April 30

Updated: 15:19, 24/03/2025

Ho Chi Minh City will launch a display featuring 10,500 drones on the night of April 30, marking Vietnam's largest drone show to date, in celebration of the 50th anniversary of national reunification.

The drone performance will take place alongside fireworks shows from 9:00 p.m. to 9:15 p.m. at approximately 30 locations along the Saigon River, covering both riverbanks in Thu Duc City and District 1, according to a plan built by the city's Department of Culture and Sports.

Ben Thanh Market is formed as part of a 1,100-drone display at the 2024 Ho Chi Minh City River Festival.

Organizers plan to submit this event for recognition as a Vietnamese record for the largest number of drones flown simultaneously, beating previous shows with around 4,000 drones.

Additionally, a special cultural program titled "Reunification Festival" will be held from 7:00 p.m. at Nguyen Hue walking street and along the Saigon River, extending from Ba Son Bridge to Nha Rong Wharf, featuring various performances both on land and water.

To commemorate the reunification day, the Department of Culture and Sports has proposed several other events, including the HCMC Photography Street, the 2025 Olympic Run Day for Public Health involving approximately 4,000 participants, and a mass sports performance with 1,400 people.

In April, the city will host the Festival of Colors on the evenings of April 19, 26, and 29.

The festival will continue throughout May, with performances scheduled on May 3, 10, 17, 24, and 31 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

These events will occur at the open stage in front of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee building, along Nguyen Hue walking street, and on the Saigon River, in celebration of President Ho Chi Minh's 135th birthday on May 19.

These shows will include artistic fireworks and drone displays featuring 1,000 to 2,000 drones per event, funded through private sponsorships.

Additional highlights of the festival include symphony concerts, mapping shows (visual techniques creating 3D imagery through lighting), and diverse artistic performances along Nguyen Hue Street.

Performances on the river will showcase don ca tai tu (traditional southern music), flower lantern parades, sailboat displays, jetpack water demonstrations, flyboarding, paddle boarding, and paragliding.
