Mobilizing resources from society to build more playgrounds for children

Updated: 19:34, 22/06/2022
(BGO)- So far, the grassroots youth unions in Bac Giang province have paid attention to mobilizing resources from the society to invest in building and buying entertainment, leisure and sport equipment for teenagers and children in rural and mountainous areas; thereby establishing safe places for children to practice physical health and entertain.

Shortage of playgrounds for children in rural and mountainous areas

Thanks to resources mobilized from the society, the youth union of Son Dong district has built 7 entertainment venues for teenagers and children worth nearly 100 million VND (4,287 USD) since early this year. However, the number of public entertainment venues for children in the district is still limited, not meeting the demand.

Similarly, there are very few playgrounds and places for children’s activities in Yen The district. Despite great efforts and engagement of the youth union in 6 months this year, members of the youth union of the communes and town in the district have mobilized fund to buy entertainment equipment for children at only 5 cultural houses in the residential areas.

“It is urgent to pay attention to building venues for children’s activities and entertainment in the locality. The district youth union has worked out plan and we are placing public entertainment equipment for children in the district”, said Luong Quang Tuyen, Secretary of the youth union of Yen The district.

Nevertheless, some playgrounds for children are placed in the kindergartens in summer, thus, the children have less chance to use.

Actively mobilizing and properly allocating resources

Facing difficulties in playgrounds for children in summer vacation, many localities have sought proper solutions.

According to Nguyen Thi Huong, Secretary of the youth union of Doan Bai commune, in order to have fund to build public entertainment facilities for teenagers and children, the youth unionists have called for funding with open letters through facebook and received support of the mass of people.

3 months ago, the youth union of Doan Bai commune and Bai Thuong village mobilized 15 million VND (643 USD) to build a leisure and sport area in the village cultural house.

As it cost more than 20 million VND (857 USD) to buy equipment and assemble the equipment, the youth unionists cleared the grass, renewed the 700 -metre square ground, welded and assemble swings, horizontal bars and parallel bars by themselves to save expenses. Besides, they made many entertainment tools and equipment from recyclable materials ensuring safety.

With this working method, the youth union of Doan Bai commune strives to build 6 more public entertainment venues in the villages to meet demand of the children in the locality.

In addition, the provincial Youth Union has directed the district-level youth unions to mobilize more resources to help disadvantaged localities.

In early this year, the youth union of Bac Giang city mobilized from the society to provide swings, rides, slides and seesaws worth 20 million VND (857 USD) at the cultural house of Chao village, Vinh An commune, Son Dong district.

Since beginning this year, the youth union at all levels in the province have built 36 entertainment and leisure venues valued at more than 1.1 billion VND (47,160 USD) including 3 provincial-level works, 20 district-level works and 14 communal-level ones.

Although the youth’s projects are small in scale, they have great meaning to facilitate children’s physical and mental comprehensive development.

“In order to have more resources, in line with mobilizing fund from the society, the provincial Youth Union has expanded good and effective methods from the localities. By the end this year, the youth union at all levels in the province will strive to build from 3 to 5 more provincial-level projects and about 30 district-level ones”, said Giap Xuan Canh, Deputy Secretary of the provincial Youth Union.
