Speaking at the announcement ceremony, member of the Party Central Committee, Editor-in-Chief of Nhan Dan Newspaper, Chairman of the Vietnam Journalists' Association, and Chairman of the Jury Council, Thuan Huu, said that the 12th National Press Awards continued to receive a warm response from press agencies, reporters and journalists with 1,846 works, the highest number ever, selected from press agencies and individuals across the country.

The 143 works in 11 categories were selected from 1,735 entries, which truly reflect the socio-economic and political situations of the nation.

This year saw the highest number of Journalists' Associations of provinces and cities attending the competition with all of the 63 Journalists' Associations of provinces in attendance.

He said that the press works featured many major political events that occurred in the country in 2017, including the implementation of the Resolution of the 12th National Party Congress, the implementation of Resolution 4 on Party building, and the implementation of Politburo Directive No. 05-CT/TW on pushing through the studying and following of the thoughts, morals and style of President Ho Chi Minh, among others.

In addition, the entries also reflected other socio-economic issues of the nation such as anti-corruption, poverty reduction, agricultural development, and Vietnam’s external activities during The 2017 APEC Summit and others.

The jury will continue to choose the best press works from the 143 works to be honored on the occasion of Vietnam's Revolutionary Press Day (June 21).
