Socialism in Vietnam: Superiority or difference?
According to these opinions, the choice of Vietnam's path towards socialism was a mistake, a different, even an odd way.
The only right path
It is necessary to confirm that the aforementioned opinions aim to deny the superiority of socialism to cause confusion in public perception and opinion about the revolutionary path chosen by the Vietnamese Party, Uncle Ho and people. This is also a sophisticated and malicious trick in order to denigrate and devalue the role and contribution of Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong to the revolutionary cause of Vietnam.

It is easy to see that it is not until now has the enemy turned their acts of sabotage towards the denial of socialism. In fact, this is an inclusive goal of hostile forces’ "peaceful evolution" strategy. It is also the way that they succeeded in the Soviet Union and Eastern European countries three decades ago. Therefore, whenever they have the opportunity to find excuses about events and phenomena in Vietnamese society, they shout out contradictory information full of sophistry and fabrication with the aim of disturbing perception, shaking the trust in the ideal goal of the Party. And this time, they resort to those dirty plots.
We know that, during the revolutionary cause, the Party, State, political system and the entire Vietnamese people have always been absolutely loyal, confident in their choice and determined to pursue the socialist path. This is not only the creative application of Marxism-Leninism to the reality of Vietnam's revolution, but also the legitimate aspiration of the Vietnamese people. This is also the only right path, in accordance with revolutionary laws, tested and proved in practice.
History shows that from late 19th to early 20th century, while many revolutionary trends fell into serious crisis and impasse, only the revolutionary path led by President Ho Chi Minh - following socialism - was in line with the historical development trend and brought the Vietnamese revolution to success.
Through different periods of revolutionary history, the victories in the national salvation and the successes in leading the country to promote the renewal process are eloquent evidence of that rightness.
Especially, in the theoretical system of the Vietnamese Party, it is always consistent and affirms the Party's revolutionary goal, which is: Apart from the interests of the Fatherland and the people, the Party has no other interests.
The clear evidence is that in the recent fight against the “Covid-19 enemy,” the whole Party and entire political system have joined forces, been present in difficult and dangerous places and even hotbeds to flexibly and creatively lead the effective disease prevention and control work.
With the spirit of "fighting the pandemic is like fighting an enemy," "no one is left behind,” "fighting the pandemic while developing the economy," "each citizen is a soldier," among others, the whole Party, people, and military have proactively surmounted difficulties, step by step pushed back the pandemic, developed the country in the new normal state. These achievements are the way to realize the revolutionary goal and path and turn to socialism’s characteristics and to affirm the superiority of the socialist political system in Vietnam.
In terms of economy, Vietnam has achieved comprehensive outcomes in all aspects of life. After more than 35 years of renewal, facing many difficult times, the country's economy has made great strides, different in quality. Especially, over the past time, when the economic darkness has covered humanity, Vietnam's economy has remained stable, recovered quickly, and developed sustainably; economic potential and synergy have been enhanced; policies, social welfare for the people have been ensured. The 13th National Party Congress assessed that “looking back upon the 35 years of implementing the renewal process, our country has never had the fortune, potential, position, and international prestige before.”
Through articles in the book, Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong affirmed that socialist society with its core, sustainable, and good values that the humanity turns to is a superior society, “truly for the people; economic development goes with social progress and justice; a society of compassion, solidarity, mutual assistance, towards progressive and humane values; sustainable development, in harmony with nature to ensure a healthy living environment for today and future generations; a political system in which the real power belongs to the people, by the people and for the interests of the people.”
Apart from the concept of socialism, the Party chief also generalized characteristics of socialism and affirmed the political determination and strong belief in the inevitable victory of the socialism in Vietnam. In the political system that we are realizing, people are free, live peacefully and amicably among communities, a society which is truly for the people and creates conditions for the people to develop comprehensively. This is also a society that all mankind aspires to.
Vietnam - destination and unprecedented example
With great revolutionary achievements and clearly affirming the superiority of socialist political system, Vietnam has always been a "destination of peace," a country that has organized various international and regional events aiming to solve problems of humanity, or achieve millennium goals. For example: Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit Week in 2017, World Economic Forum on ASEAN in 2018 (WEF ASEAN 2018), the U.S. - Democratic People’s Republic of Korea Summit in 2019. These have demonstrated Vietnam’s capability and conditions to hold important international events and more importantly affirmed the high trust of other countries in Vietnam.
Especially, since 2014, Vietnam's participation in U.N. peacekeeping operations has affirmed the consistent policy of the Party and State in both foreign affairs and international cooperation, meeting our nation's aspirations and traditions and demonstrating the country’s responsibility to the world in handling hot and complicated issues for the sake of peace for the mankind.
Acknowledging the revolutionary achievements made by Vietnam when following the path of socialism, many countries in the world have actively shaken hands and partnered with Vietnam in many aspects.
At present, Vietnam has diplomatic relations with 189 countries in all continents and fruitful relations with all major powers and permanent members of the U.N. Security Council. Vietnam has 17 strategic (including 3 comprehensive strategic) and 13 comprehensive partner countries.
It is worth mentioning that the prestige and position of the Communist Party of Vietnam has also been raised in the international arena. When leaders of the Vietnamese Party and State make diplomatic trips and visits to countries, including major powers in the world, they always receive respectful, warm and open receptions from the highest leaders of the host countries. Attentively, leaders of the world's parties, regardless of regimes and institutions, have actively shaken hands with Vietnamese leaders to cooperate and signed a number of cooperation agreements in different fields.
In recent years, numerous international friends, big international organizations, and developed nations have invited Vietnam to participate in summits of the world's developed economies; conferences to share Vietnam’s experiences in leading the renewal process. The Communist Party of Vietnam has also sent delegates to many scientific seminars, conferences to exchange and share leadership experiences among communist parties, or between political parties.
The aforementioned examples manifest that most countries and parties in the world have recognized and respected Vietnam's choice of the path towards socialism, acknowledged the country’s efforts to build and develop the political system, and considered it an unprecedented example, creating confidence in international friends about the choice of the socialist model with the goals of humanity, compassion, and peace that Vietnam is trying to achieve, and about the foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, peace and harmony. Thus, all deductions, deliberate denial of the theoretical development in Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong's book are just opinions of a hostile part which has been deliberately sabotaging the Vietnamese revolution, smearing leaders and deliberately denying the superiority of the socialist political system in Vietnam.
In this book, Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong summarized and generalized the great revolutionary achievements of the Party, State and people, drew many valuable lessons leading to success, including the first lesson of determining the right path towards socialism. Socialism is the goal and ideal of the Communist Party of Vietnam and the entire Vietnamese people. Towards socialism is an objective requirement, an inevitable path - the only right path of the Vietnamese revolution. That is also a sharp argument that denies all the cowardly and dirty schemes of those who deliberately smear, distort and sabotage Vietnam.
Theoretical issues drawn by the Communist Party of Vietnam in general and Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong in particular (in the past and at present), have been exchanged, learnt, and specially recognized and impressed by nations, political parties, and international organizations.
Many political parties and newspapers in the world have published the Vietnamese Party chief’s articles, analyzed his arguments and considered this a document of great reference value, providing answers for questions concerned by many researchers in the world. On the other hand, also from here, international friends have had more foundations to strengthen their belief in Vietnam's success and increase their support for Vietnam's national construction on the road to socialism.
This freshly-published book is another evidence for the assessment of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation recorded in the Resolution (April 14, 2020) on the awarding of the Lenin Prize, a major award honoring collectives and individuals with outstanding contribution to social activities and to enriching the theory and practice of Marxism-Leninism. For the Party General Secretary of Vietnam, the resolution noted that he "has made great personal contribution to the practice of building socialism and developing the communist movement in the current period."
Therefore, it is not necessary to argue further. Going to socialism is the only right path of the Vietnamese revolution. The current reality shows that the entire Party, people and military have made great efforts to promote the renewal cause, been confident in the revolutionary path. That truth is cold water thrown to the face of the haters who deliberately sabotage the Vietnamese revolution.
