This was the pinnacle victory with decisive significance in the victory of Lam Son uprising led by Le Loi and Nguyen Trai that ended 20 years of brutal domination by the Ming Dynasty.

To celebrate the victory, in 1428, after ascending the throne, King Le Loi held a festival to reward the army and read the "Binh Ngo Proclamation".

In that common joy, in Kinh Bac region, Xuong Giang citadel also enjoyed the benefits and organized a big festival to pray to heaven and earth to bestow blessings on the people.

From then on, the people of Xuong Giang region held festivals in early spring from the 5th to the 7th of lunar January to commemorate this feat. This was also the occasion for the villages around Xuong Giang citadel to organize traditional village festivals.

The Xuong Giang victory relic site and the Xuong Giang festival have helped form, create and carry typical values ​​imbued with the cultural identity of the Kinh Bac - Bac Giang land as well as represent the traditional culture of the people of the ethnic groups in Bac Giang province.

For the typical historical and cultural relics and values, in 2023, the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism signed a Decision to include the Xuong Giang festival (Bac Giang city) in the list of national intangible cultural heritage.

The temple opening ceremony is held solemnly at Xuong Giang temple.

After the ceremony, delegates and people enjoyed the art program “The heroic spirit of Xuong Giang is passed down forever”.

Previously, there was a sacrificial ceremony, a ritual of releasing fish and birds to pray for national peace and prosperity at the relic site.

BAC GIANG - On February 14 evening (the 5th day of the first lunar month), the municipal Party Committee, People’s Council, People’s Committee and Fatherland Front Committee of Bac Giang city solemnly organised the festival marking the 597th anniversary of the Xuong Giang Victory and announcing the decision of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism recognising the Xuong Giang Festival as a national intangible cultural heritage.

Xuong Giang festival is held annually in early spring (on the 6th and 7th lunar January) to celebrate the Chi Lang- Xuong Giang Victory in 1427.

Xuong Giang ancient citadel or Xuong Giang Victory special national relic site  is located in the Quan Thanh T-junction, Xuong Giang ward of Bac Giang city (Bac  Giang province). It was recognized by the Prime Minister as the Special National Relic Site in the Decision No 1954/QD-TTg on December 31, 2019. The site was attached to Lam Son Uprising led by Le Loi to fight against the control of Minh invader.
