Vietnam province proposes using flying taxis for tourism

Updated: 17:10, 31/10/2024

Central Binh Dinh Province, home Quy Nhon beach city, has proposed introducing flying taxis to boost tourism and enhance sustainable development in the region.

The provincial People's Committee on Tuesday requested the Ministry of Transport seek approval from the Prime Minister to allow the trial use of electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft. These aircraft, known as flying taxis, are envisioned as an eco-friendly transportation option for tourists.

According to the committee, eVTOLs, which can accommodate 4-5 passengers, are similar to helicopters but run on electricity. The proposed flying taxis would offer tourists aerial views of Binh Dinh’s landscapes and attractions, while contributing to the province's environmental goals by reducing emissions compared to traditional cars and trains.

The committee said trials to evaluate the feasibility of the vehicles are needed, and necessary legal frameworks must be established.

Several countries, including China, the U.S., Germany, Singapore and South Korea, are currently researching the development and application of eVTOL technology.
