Vietnamese passport holders enjoy visa-free entry to 51 destinations

Updated: 18:30, 05/11/2024

Global citizenship and residence advisory company Henley & Partners has ranked Vietnamese passport 90th most powerful as its citizens can visit these 51 places without applying for a visa.

The number of visa-free destinations accessible to Vietnamese passport holders has decreased by four compared to the previous version. These comprise 24 visa-free destinations, 23 destinations with visa-on-arrival (VOA), and four destinations with electronic travel authoritzation (ETA).

Vietnam's blue passport issued from July 1, 2022.

The Henley Index defines "visa-free" travel as entry without a visa, or the ability to obtain a visa on arrival or an electronic travel authorization.

In the index released in October, Vietnam's passport has dropped three places against the July version.

In Southeast Asia, the Vietnamese passport is currently ranked above those of Laos (92nd) and Myanmar (93rd).

The Henley Passport Index, which assesses 199 global passports using data from the International Air Transport Association, is updated quarterly as visa policies change.

Singapore has the most powerful passport in the world, with visa-free access to 195 destinations, while France, Germany, Italy, Japan and Spain share the second spot with 192 destinations.

Yemen, Iraq, Syria and Afghanistan are listed as having the world's least powerful passports.
