This has been the highest result of Vietnamese students over the years. At the 19th Asian Physics Olympiad that took place in Hanoi in May, the Vietnamese eight-member delegation won four gold, two silver and two bronze medals.

Meanwhile, the Vietnamese five-member delegation brought home two gold, two silver and one bronze medals at the 49th International Physics Olympiad (IPhO 2018) held in Portugal from July 21 to 29 with the participation of 86 countries and territories.

Vietnamese students taking part in the 50th International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO 2018) earned one gold, two silver and one bronze medals.

Vietnam’s four-member team to the 30th International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI 2018) in Japan brought home one gold, one silver and two bronze medals. With all four students winning medals, the Vietnamese delegation ranked 2nd in the Southeast Asian region and 12th among the attending countries.

At the International Biology Olympiad in Iran, all four Vietnamese students won medals, including three golds and a silver. Especially, Nguyen Phuong Thao from the Natural Science High School for Gifted Students under the Vietnam National University, Hanoi got a gold medal and attained the highest score out of 261 contestants.

Vietnam wins 4 gold at Asian Physics Olympiad (Vietnamnet).

In addition to Olympiads, the Vietnamese student delegation to the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF) 2018 held in Pennsylvania, the US, won encouraging results, with one third prize and one consolation prize.

The Ministry of Education and Training attributed the high result to its active adjustment of the national examinations for gifted high-school students, thorough preparations for the Olympiads and preferential policies for medal winners.

A ceremony to honor the students will be held by the ministry on October 19 evening in Hanoi.
