Advantage of spiritual tourism in Bac Giang

Updated: 18:51, 21/09/2020
(BGO) – Bac Giang used to be the ancient land of the Dai Viet. Now, the land houses hundred of spiritual historical relic sites with precious value which will be potential destinations to welcome visitors.

Diverse potentials

The cultural history long time ago proved that Bac Giang province is “sacred land with extraordinary people” where 6 people at the same village graduated the Dai Khoa (pre-court competition-examination) in the feudal dynasty. With due attention for exploitation, the above mentioned place will become a valuable tourism attraction to both domestic and foreign visitors.

Bac Giang boasts many beautiful landscapes and thousand year old Buhhism relic sites such as Bo Da pagoda (Viet Yen district), Vinh Nghiem pagoda, Khu pagoda (Yen Dung district), Bo Da pagoda (Nam Duong commune, Luc Ngan district), Tu Ha temple (Hong Giang commune, Luc Ngan district), Yen The Uprising relic and several revolutionary historical relic sites with high educational value across the province.

Specific and long term view are needed

Amid the economic difficulties, the province has attracted the investment to expand the road and build the spacious infrastructure of Tay Yen Tu Spiritual and Ecological Tourism Site.

To draw more visitors, it is a good idea to introduce the tourists to Vinh Nghiem pagoda the knowledge of the founding history of Truc Lam Zen Sect; translate the Nom script on the precious woodblock into modern Vietnamese so that they could learn about the good deed, value of Vietnamese Buddhism or creation of three founders of the Truc Lam Zen Sect..., helping enhance the national pride.

Vinh Nghiem pagoda is located by Luc Nam river. Encountering the travel difficulties in the past, the Buddhist King Monk Tran Nhan Tong, two founders and Ly Dao Tri seemed to move from Thang Long capital pass Luc Dau Giang to Nhan turning point to enter Luc Nam river.

Acknowledging the beauty location of the pagoda with quiet atmosphere and smooth river traffic, they decided to stay here to research and create the Buddhism bible of Truc Lam Zen Sect then transfer to Vietnamese Buddhism. From this site, Tran Nhan Tong and the founders went downstream Luc Nam river following Dong Trieu arc to Tay Yen Tu.

Thus, it formed a river pilgrimage from Vinh Nghiem pagoda to Tay Yen Tu which offers visitors chance to read and listen to the introduction about the precious woodblock, enjoy river tour to Luc Nam then a road tour to Tay Yen Tu. The additional tourism product helps diversify the visitors’ experience to the Buddhism land of Tay Yen Tu.

The Government suggested three provinces of Bac Giang, Hai Duong and Quang Ninh to coordinate in building the document to submit to UNESCO to recognize the whole relic site of Yen Tu as world heritage which is an advantage for Bac Giang province to deeply research and thoroughly exploit the priceless value of Truc Lam Zen Sect.

Moreover, many existing legends on book and folktale relating to Tay Yen Tu spiritual historical site or other relic sites in the province should be collected to diversify the tourism products and draw visitors.

To develop and promote all values of the historical relic sites in close connection with spirit, the policy and measure are not enough. We need to train human resources with deep understanding about spiritual culture, rich experiences and creative ideas to made attractive tourism products while calling for the engagement from the whole society.

Tourism is a key economic sector, especially when the living standard is more and more improved. The state authority should well manage and facilitate the enterprises and businessmen investing in tourism; attract the socialization sources; promote the creative thinking among the tourism community.

We hope that Bac Giang tourism will effectively exploit the historical and spiritual relic sites to bring an income to the State and people while contributing to raising the people’s pride to the spirit, culture and history of the nation.
