The signing ceremony was attended by Bui Van Hai, a Party Central Committee member, Secretary of the Bac Giang provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the provincial People’s Council; Major General Nguyen Manh Hung, a Party Central Committee member, a Central Party Military Commission member and Director-General of Viettel Group; Nguyen Van Linh, Chairman of the Bac Giang provincial People’s Committee; Nguyen Thi Thu Ha, Vice Chairwoman of the Bac Giang provincial People’s Committee; and senior officials from several departments, sectors and branches in the locality.

The cooperation deal looks to develop a master architecture planning for a smart city in the province and a cutting-edge information technology (IT) and communication infrastructure. It also aims to make the best use of IT applications in social life, thus creating a broad, stable, safe and secure information electronic environment, improving work performance efficiency and productivity, saving time and costs, and increasing the transparency in the operation of State management office, in service of local people’s better life quality.

Bac Giang and Viettel consented to select a number of sectors to be developed as smart sectors, including public administration, transport, healthcare, agriculture, education and training. These sectors are targeted to become comprehensively smart, generating productive applications in reality. They are expected to be put into service in 2018.

At the ceremony, Major General Nguyen Manh Hung introduced the group’s prominent achievements gained in recent time. He stated that the group has paid due attention to investing in upgrading its telecommunication infrastructure and enthusiastically carrying out social welfare and social security programmes in Bac Giang. 

The group will continue throwing its support for the province to build the smart city along with installing a camera-controlled traffic and public security and order surveillance network.

Addressing the signing ceremony, Bui Van Hai spoke highly of the recent production and business outcomes reaped by Viettel. He affirmed that IT application is a practical need to catch up with the current fourth industrial revolution and to improve the efficiency of managerial and steering work, in which time and costs will be reduced for the State, people, and businesses, particularly in the fields of land, the use of health insurance cards and the management of citizens’ records. 

Bac Giang will create optimal conditions for Viettel to implement the agreed plan and continue expanding its investments, production and business in the locality.

On the day, hosts and guests toured Viettel’s global technique, web technology research, and data centres and plant M1 at the Hoa Lac Hi-tech Park.
