Bac Giang prioritizes resources to expand school infrastructure
BAC GIANG - Facing a shortage of land and outdated facilities at many schools, Bac Giang province is prioritizing resource allocation to expand campuses and build new, modern classrooms.
Investing in standardized, modern schools
The Department of Education and Training has worked with local governments to review land funds, clear sites and mobilize social resources for school expansion. Efforts focus on modernizing schools to meet national standards, with strong public support for land donations.

Previously, Dong Son Primary and Secondary Schools in Bac Giang City were cramped, limiting their ability to meet higher national standards. In 2022, Dong Son Primary School was relocated to a new campus with 68 billion VND (2.95 million USD) in investment.
Implementing the investment plan to build facilities for public educational institutions in the 2024-2030 period, Bac Giang province plans to add 186.7 hectares to expand the area of public schools to build 4,200 more classrooms and 2,800 functional rooms, 289 multi-purpose buildings with an estimated cost of about 28.5 trillion VND. |
Meanwhile, Dong Son Secondary School took over the old primary school site and received a 33 billion VND investment for new classrooms and facilities. Both schools now meet level-2 national standards.
Following the province’s education development plan to 2030, Bac Giang City plans to allocate 2,000 billion VND to upgrade school facilities and improve educational activities. The city aims to ensure all schools operating for at least five years meet level-1 standards by 2025, with at least 30% reaching level 2.
Bac Giang is also expanding schools near industrial parks to accommodate the surge in student numbers, focusing on modern, standardized infrastructure.
An example is Van Ha Secondary School in Viet Yen township, previously the smallest in the province, often flooded during rainy seasons. It is now being relocated to a new 10,000 m² site with a 60 billion VND investment, scheduled for completion in May 2025.
Other large-scale projects include expansions at Ngo Si Lien, Dinh Ke, Minh Duc, Hop Thinh No.1, and Huong Lam schools. Thanks to such efforts, 96.4% of Bac Giang’s schools are now permanent structures, with 95.7% meeting national level-1 standards and 30% reaching level-2—higher than the national average.
Meeting growing educational demand
Student numbers have been rising rapidly, especially in urbanizing areas like Bac Giang City, Viet Yen township and Hiep Hoa. High school enrollment is expected to surge from the 2026–2027 academic year, with approximately 41,000 students graduating from secondary school annually.
