Updated: 07:35, 08/02/2024
BAC GIANG - Khau nhuc (steamed pork belly), Chu noodles, Van Chung cake, Yen The hill chicken, Son Dong vermicelli, Phi Dien jujubes, Luc Ngan yellow flesh oranges and Lien Chung Grilled Fermented Pork Roll ... are specialties in the northern province of Bac Giang that are popular with many people during Lunar New Year. In lunar December, all craft villages are on fire, the working atmosphere is bustling days and nights to harvest and process products in time for the Tet feast of every family.

Regional specialties lure customers

These days, the kitchen at Thien Loi Service - Agriculture Cooperative in Yen Dinh commune (Son Dong district) is always busy. Phi Dien jujubees of Luc Ngan district are widely prefered during the Lunar New Year.

Director of the Cooperative Hoang Van Thien shared: "Khau nhuc is a traditional dish of the ethnic people in my hometown. A feast is only considered as Tet feast if there is Khau nhuc.

Every year, from the 9th lunar month, my family raises pigs to get the best pieces of pork belly to make the dish. At the same time, we prepare spices including garlic, Kaempferia galanga and others. Later, seeing that many people love this rustic dish, we established a cooperative to process and distribute products to all regions".

To make Bac Giang's typical products well known to many consumers, all localities in the province have accelerated promotion on mass media, social networks and participated in booths and fairs to introduce products, hence helping expand the consumption market and bring products further.

For a long time, Song Van Gio cake and Ngoc Thien Nhom cake in Tan Yen district have been a hometown gift for many people. During Tet, this dish is widely preferred by many people because it is easy to eat, boosts up digestion and reminds the flavors of old Tet.

Many other specialties of the Bac Giang countryside are also very popular such as Son Dong arrowroot vermicelli; Grilled Fermented Pork Roll (Tan Yen district); Che lam and peanut candies in Tan My (Bac Giang city); Tho Ha rice sheets (Viet Yen township); Van Chung cake, Thai Son sticky rice (Hiep Hoa district); Yen The hill chicken; Phi Dien jujubes and Luc Ngan sweet oranges.
