As I am working in the education sector so when passing through the headquarters of the communal People's Committee, I invited our friends to visit the Son Hai day boarding school for ethnic minority students.

Cam Son lake is like a miniature "Ha Long Bay".

On Sunday, there was only a group of teachers who live away from home. After a while, I asked three of them to take a day with our group to the lake. Only with that, three young boys immediately said: "We volunteer to go with you." Hung, Son, and Thanh took us down the path and unbuckled the boat from the tree.

Cam Son current originates from Huu Lung district (Lang Son province) and is blocked when it comes to Luc Ngan district, creating a lake. Cam Son lake is located in four communes of Son Hai, Ho Dap, Tan Son and Cam Son. It has a surface area of about 2,650 ha. In rainy season, the water rises and the lake surface can be as large as 3,000 ha. The deepest point of the lake is nearly 50m.

The light winds glided, only blowing the hairs on the faces, but they also made waves surfing and the boat stalled ... The boat ran smoothly on the waves. It was over 7 am but the sun was yet to rise. The early morning seemed to make the dew skimming the water. It looked magical. The first feeling when entering the lake was like being in a version of "miniature Ha Long Bay".

When the sun rose, small and big boats that went fishing overnight returned sporadically. On the lake, there is a market which sells all kinds of goods, from shrimp, crab and fish to fruit, steamed glutinous rice, pigs and chicken displayed on the boats.

Boat owners are the "fishermen" wearing gauze suits while the elderly women carrying bags on their shoulders chewed betel ... Buyers were tourists and people from four lakeside communes, Huu Lung district (Lang Son province) or Song Hoa dam who came to buy shrimp and fish. Fishermen who returned from fishing at night also bought more necessities for their living. They also looked at commodities, chose and bargained. The sellers and buyers were all busy...

Cam Son lake shrimp - a famous specialty.

The "market" is a wide area of nearly 1 square kilometer. The three "crew" members reduced the boar’s speed, taking us to see many places in the "market". The "traders" eagerly introduced and helped us choose shrimp and fish.

After eating a handful of steamed glutinous rice, the group continued to go sightseeing. Hung let Son control the oars to turn around, slowly bringing us closer to a strait.

Hoan said “We come to the narrowest section!” I was stunned when only in a short time we could reach out to the old trees on the shore and just stretch out our hands to pick up the reeds on the lake. The water here is dark green as it is shadowed by trees.

This season, the water on the lake rises high and crowds deep into the forest, splitting the shore into a hundred of undulating islets of various sizes reflected on the water.

The sunset gradually came down to the lake. The sun was like a dazzling yellow tray dividing the space of sky and water into half. In the past, people relied on incomes from growing cassava and green bean on the hills. They also expected in the dry season when the water was down, they grew crops and caught shrimp and fish ...

But those incomes were unstable because of depending on the weather. In recent years, the low hills have been covered by fruit trees. In the harvest season, red lychees are swaying slightly in the wind. And the electricity has lit up the highlands. The new spacious houses are gradually replacing the old ones. Many multi-story houses standing amid the green color of hills and mountains look like resorts.

In recent few years, yellow-flesh orange, Dien and green-skin grapefruit have been planted on the hillsides. People's lives have been improving and they have really paid attention to their children’s learning. In the area with mountains and the immense lake, the sentiments and responsibility of teachers are always attached to the feelings of mountainous ethnic people.
