The event was held on the sidelines of the annual “Through Viet Bac Heritage Sites” programme in Lang Son province from November 3 – 5.

Addressing the event, Director of the Lang Son Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Phuc Ha said Viet Bac, comprising Cao Bang, Bac Kan, Lang Son, Ha Giang, Tuyen Quang and Thai Nguyen, holds great potential for eco-tourism and cultural tourism as the region is renowned for its beautiful landscapes and historical sites such as Ba Be Lake, Lenin Stream, Pac Bo Cave, the Nhi Thanh and Tam Thanh grottos, To Thi Mountain and the Tan Trao historical site.

Lang Son province, which shares a border with Guangxi, has taken steps to strengthen tourism links between Lang Son and Viet Bac, and the Chinese province, Ha said.

To make Viet Bac an attractive destination, a joint action plan is needed for the six provinces to focus on promoting signature tourism products, he said.

His counterpart from Cao Bang, Truong The Vinh, said the provinces need expert consultation alongside support policies and special mechanisms for the development of tourism.

Other delegates also said the provinces should accelerate the promotion of unique tourism products, conduct surveys about tourism products, attend travel fairs and cultural exchange festivals, and facilitate the growth of travel agencies and tourism businesses.

Deputy Director General of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism Ngo Hoai Chung said the administrations in Viet Bac must focus on developing local infrastructure in terms of transportation, telecommunications and electricity to facilitate tourism growth.

They should also provide support for tour operators, adopt incentives to lure more tourism investors, and beef up promotions for tours linking Viet Bac and Guangxi, he added.
